I googled 'slanket' and came up with a list of sites including some being sold on amazon.
Also on amazon was this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luxury-Snuggie-Blanket-Fleece-Sleeves/dp/B002APQ5SO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1255168347&sr=8-3
and this is another one as well: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gift-House-Blankets-Sleeves-Adults/dp/B001U3X6W0/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1255168620&sr=8-6
not actually 'slankets' but something very similar and alot cheaper - wonder if anybody has tried these?0 -

I did the same - googled slanket and found the first one but when I read the reviews especially the second one (one in capital letters) I decided against it.
I would have got one from one of our local Morrisons stores but they don't sell them:(!0 -

My Morrisons doesn't have them either, have just spent the morning scouring every shelf! And at £10 that's massively cheaper than those on Amazon.
What I'd really like is an electric throw. But they're around 40-50 quid.
Unless.........that is......... you know better!

Just got my 6 x fleeces delivered by friend who was in A$da, so I now have enough to make the thermal window blinds for the other 3 windows. Adding in the cost of the Velcr0, it works out much, much cheaper than having to buy new curtains, even if they'd had them available in the nearest charity shop. Door curtains have been hung and I have ordered the adhesive foam draught excluder tape for around the doors. Got that and the Velcr0 from €Bay as it was cheaper including P&P than anywhere locally I could have bought it. Just need to get a new grate and companion set for the fireplace, get the chimney swept (sweep's away on holiday) and then see how long it is before we'll need the bedroom and livingroom storage heaters switched on. Fingers crossed that the temp doesn't drop any more before next month.
Slankety things - couldn't you make them by sewing the £2 fleeces together? You'd have enough left over for knee shawls, legwarmers, waterbottle covers, cushion covers or a scarf.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Went to Matalan yesterday as I had a 20% off Friends and Family voucher (my boss' son works there). I bought fleecy PJs for the boys (2 pairs each) plus bedsocks for them as they had been coveting their little sister's! They had been waking up early as they were cold (I haven't put the heating on yet) but last night in their new PJs and bedsocks they slept soundly till about 7.30.0

I'm 5-10 and very generously proportioned, so doubt if one of these comfortably would fit ME.
However, I've been 'mentally designing' something to construct out of a fleece blanket - maybe poncho-style - for sitting at the comp in the winter months. It would need to be easy on/easy off; have side seams - to keep out draughts/keep in warmth; and have openings for my hands to be typing.
I got a Tesco Supersoft Throw last month when they were half price (£6). I cut a hole in the centre and stitched round it just to reinforce (no hemming needed) and it made a lovely warm poncho.
The throws are quite thick and bigger than some fleeces so there is plently to wrap round to keep draughts out, and if you need your arms you can just poke them out.
A tip for anyone who is planning to do this with fleeces/throws...don't over estimate how big your head is (stop laughing!). Cut round a CD first and try it, you'll be surprised how much fleece can stretch. You can always enlarge the hole bit by bit.0 -
A different viewpoint from me: it isn`t just about keeping warm but about having enough food etc in so that we don`t `need` to go shopping when the weather is bad. Candles for powercuts, matches, wind up lanterns. plug in phone, a few extra toilet rolls, some extra cans etc. I am personally drying onions today in my dehydrator as they are cheap just now and so so handy. I feel as though it is part of my hibernating process ie getting the harvest safely indoors. Tomorrow I will dry bramley slices and peppers on monday. I love having everything tucked away for winter0

Hi folks
Just popping on quickly to pass on a couple of tips (I usually inhabit the flylady thread but having a wander around the forums today).
Apparently, sugar depresses the immune system and puts a strain on your body as it struggles to digest it. I have been trying to give up sugar and have definitely had fewer lurgies/lighter lurgies as a result. It's worth thinking about, if you can wean yourself off it you should see the benefits.
The other thing I discovered is mega doses of Vit C. I buy a powdered drink from my local healthfood shop; it is a 1000mg of Vit C plus zinc and other minerals and vits. Zinc and Vit C are supposed to boost the immune system. I think this stuff works, because I have been exposed to two people with really nasty colds/sore throats in the last week. So I took some of the vit c 'potion' and, although I could definitely feel a cold coming on, it hasn't materialised and I feel fine today. I hope this lasts for the rest of the winter :rotfl:
I still have to put up some fleece linings on my curtains though ..... no amount of vit c is going to insulate the house .....Aspire not to have more but to be more.
