Here's hoping for a really good old-fashioned cold winter also: last year's and many years previous have been so mild (Global warming etc.): It just isn't normalBLOODBATH IN THE EVENING THEN? OR PERHAPS THE AFTERNOON? OR THE MORNING? OH, FORGET THIS MALARKEY!

yes the did. the king size that i bought was marked up at £10.99 but scanned at £8.99
I been thinking baout my cats as well.
as they liked to be out alot at night. all 3 of them came in very cold this morning.
so i've got the spare double cat carrier , put it by the back door , took door off the cat carrier and put in 2 large thick fleece blankets. so if they don't want to come in they have somewhere to snuggle. cats seems very pleased with it. will check it daily tho to make sure it not wet and if it is then i can change the bedding.0 -
Hi fellow squirrels out there:) We put our summer duvets away and had our new winter ones on the beds about a month ago.Got them in a sale in M&S a few months back so that was great. Will be buying candles and de icer tomorrow while shopping in Ldil, as they have lots of cheap stuff. I have gas heating at home but it can be expensive so we make sure it is not wasted and we have a good draft excluder at the door and we close the curtains early to keep in the heat, at teatime. I adore this time of year. I have lots of scarves and gloves from last year and i am knitting myself a warm sweater soon when i finish what i am knitting now. I bought a slow cooker which i enjoy using and will def use more now the weather has changed. I will also try some of the charity shops tomorrow for warm sweaters i can wear about the home too. Have had to have the c/h on a couple of times - but so far not actually put it on the timer for regular use yet.
Think it now time to get that autumn duvet out this weekend when I change the bed - then the summer one can have a wash ready for when I need to join them together. I did find last night VERY cold. The cat didn't even try to escape out of the door when I put rubbish out.0 -
Ok, now it's starting to get cold I'm in too, not for this house but the one we move into on Sunday. I've taken the winter duvet there will just brave the cold with the 4.5 tog one for a few nights. Need to buy the boys new winter duvets, they've got summer ones on still now but with their fleeces (they have their own which they use as sheet in summer and for extra in winter) they drag them downstairs when it's cold, meany Mam doesn't like to put heating on too often. I've used the heating 3 times on a morning but nothing other than that so far.
Have only got one door curtain left and some bright spark thought it'd be fun in the new house to have 3 back doors, inc 2 doubles! I'll put that on the front door for now as seems the most draughty. I've noticed when I am over it's warmer with the conservatory doors shut most of the time, no radiator in there at all, might buy a heater for in there as that is where my main PC will be. Warmer when it's sunny of course. I have also found out I need new curtains for the front room as they don't even close, how stupid is that!
I have no idea what the new place is like for power cuts, this ones a nightmare, even if I do curse it as I hate cooking on gas the new house has a gas hob which should make things easier. I have a stack of candles just incase. Got some deicer for DP for work as he doesn't like sitting waiting for the car to defrost when he finishes work at 4am, neighbours near where his boss lives not keen on him having the car sat running either.
jcr16 I just bought some new pillows, 'luxury' ones in Instore, think they were just under £7 for 4. They did have some cheaper ones, same price for 6 I think. One day I might be more organised...........

Does anyone know how to keep the cost down of household heating when you have storage heaters?? I have only had my 1 bed flat for a year. Last winter was ridiculous and ever since i have been paying £93 per month for electricity. I am now in cedit of about £180 so i am hoping that will see me thru the winter!! are there ant tips to keep my costs down in the future as i cant afford to have another winter the same??0

http://www.knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/mittens_gloves.php
Found this site with free patterns for fingerless gloves/mitts, apologies if been posted before. They might look a bit "Albert Steptoe" but my hands get cold even in the house, anyway who cares. Gonna make some for working on the computer at home and work. Will make some funky ones for niece for xmas, as ther'e bang in fashion right now.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Still no heating on here yet although it is cold outside.
However I bought one of those flameless candle thingys with my shop last month as it was on offer and have had that going a couple of times. Had a friend round last night who complained she was a bit chilly so after fetching her a jumper (she was only wearing a tshirt!!) I put the candle thing on.
After about an hour she commented on how much heat it was giving out and took the jumper off! Its battery powered so there is no heat :rotfl:
So just goes to prove if you can create the illusion of heat you don't feel the cold:T
Ive taken to shutting the doors to the rooms I'm in. Sounds small but Ive discovered with just me here by shutting the door to the living room completely instead of just pushing it too Ive been able to stay warm with no effort.
Have got a fleecy blanket to one side and have also dug out the blankets for the bed for when it really gets cold.
Sad to say but I'm really looking forwards to it getting really cold just to see if I can save pennies:oJune Grocery Challenge 270.80/250July Grocery Challenge 0/3000
