Frugal - I brought my daughter a fleece poncho which actually shapes to fit around the feet also. And fleece foot warmer (modern version of what my grandma used to have) think I paid around £8 for both from Ikea. Cant remember if they did adults. They might have done on the blankets but not the foot warmer.

It's too hot to even think about changing over duvets yet - 19 degrees yesterday! Friday was just as warm and even more humid. Still got the summer duvet on, no curtains up and the windows wide open.

Gosh, you're hardy Gers. I put winter duvets on a few weeks ago, plus the extra duvets underneath.

I like to open the windows for an hour every morning too (small top windows in the winter!) to get some fresh air blowing through.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • We like to have ours left open until we see the frost. :) Still on our summer quilt, too and I'm pushing that off quite a lot of the time because we are both finding it quite 'muggy' some nights. Long may it last.:D

Still on the summer quilt here too - autumn one is waiting in the wings though! Hopefully won't have to join the two together until around Christmas.

I've found that this house is much warmer upstairs than downstairs (the builders did state that these are supposed to be better insulated and more economic as regards heating) - but the downstairs is open-plan :( (not quite to my taste - but nothing you can do about that when you rent!).

I have my second pair of curtains up in the conservatory so now have the 'cavity wall curtaining' from there to lounge - Its made an enormous difference to the warmth downstairs - wish I had thought of it last year.

Hi All, I jsut read the other day we are in for a bad winer - thank god i live next doo rto a coop is all i can say and i live opposite a pharmacy and my village is so tiny that the pharmacist and all the workers live int he village so they are never shut unless theres a power cut. This sounds so sad but today i was out shoppign with my sprog adn suddenly thoguht - oh my god if there is a power cut that lasts a fair while (our main roads into vilalges are in valleys and one is very prone to mud slides etc and the other si down a SUPER steep hill which is terribly dangerous in icy conditions) - go figure there is a graveyard at the bottom of it too! anyway i suddenly thought if theres a power cut how will i cook?? so im thinking of trying to find a small freezer on freecycle and filling it with purpose made homemade meals and milk etc plus i brought a small gas cooker lighter today too so at least i can get the cooker going if need be. Still no extra duvet here but it is getting chilly in the nights so fleece blankets a must - or cuddling and lots of candles, think i might put a fleecy blanket under the bottom sheet instead but will put extra duvet in boys beds. Yet to get the blind for bens room but will get it tomorrow when hes back at school and put it up. Might have a day of draft proofing tomorrow -QUESTION CAN I USE DUCK TAPE TO BLOCK GAPS AROUND THE WINDOW SEALENT AS OURS ARE SUPER DRAFTY!!!
    Time to find me again
