Preparing for Winter

I flippin love that autumn approach. There is a special smell in the air.
For me the heatwave on Wednesday was my idea of hell! Aah lovely lovely Autumn.
I totally agree:D I was born in July but I've always prefered the colder weather. In fact the only reason I started taking HRT was because I hated the fact that I was never cold and I missed deliberately letting myself get chilly and then snuggling down with a hotwater bottle or toasting myself by the fire:p Takes all sorts doesn't it!:o0 -

I'm the same. I quite like the summer and the fact that you can get out and do stuff (and the fact that I get 6 weeks off work as I work in a nursery school) but nothing beats that feeling of autumn: apples and bonfires and leaves turning and wearing jumpers again.

Anyway, find this thread is keeping me positive and I'm forcing myself to focus on the fun side to winter - candlelight, cosy hot chocs and cookies, snuggling on the sofa and fluffy slippers. Plus, seed catalogues and big plans to be made for 2010 growing season.
Repainting outside windows and re-doing sealant and draught-proofing at present.
Must hem my thick curtains I got from CS for the doors, too. :rolleyes:Thank you :j:j Now if you could 'lean' on my GP to send me to warmer climes from November to end of March, on the NHS I'd be ever so grateful
Aah Bless you both, I'll try and keep my joy to myself!!:o0 -

Absolutely, and I find by the end of August I am sick of summer clothes and can't wait to get into boots, long skirts, chunky sweaters, fleecy PJs etc.:p0 -
I HATE autumn, absolutely hate it. But I like winter
Autumn everything's dying, but winter its more like sleeping to get ready for spring somehow..

I'm still wearing them - where's this summer then? Right now I'm wearing oversized woolly cardy over tshirt, cords and socks. I'm still cold - it's really windy outside and as usual colder in than out. I never bother having a separate summer wardrobe, it's just all to do with the thickness of the jumper. GRR!0 -
Could you put a curtain pole from the ceiling, around the bottom of the stairs, and the side of the stairs. Then you could hang curtains made out of fleeces. (Just sew the header tape on them - maybe join afew together?) Or of course if your able buy the fleece fabric and get the right lengths? Fleece is quite light weight, and warm?
Thanks, yes, that's pretty much what I was thinking of doing, something along those lines anyway. The stupid stairwell is far wider than the actual staircase though, so the curtain will have to take up quite a lot of the living room. Anyway trial and error will do it! I'll look out for fleece curtains - elsewhere I've got some cord ones from Ikea, they're huge (3 metres long) and can be left big for doors with a heavy hem which works well, and cut down for other places.

I have been to Primark today and bought 2 lovely cosy fleeces for our beds (£4 for a really soft cream one for our bed and £2 for a red one for DS2 as he has Arsenal Bedding)
They also had gents reversible fleeces for £8. Great Quality. Bought one to put away for OHs xmas.
I then went to Savers and got some flu remedy sachets, throat lozenges and echinacea.
Next week Lidl have Opaque knitted tights on offer.
I love Autumn too. I think it is because my birthday is in October.0 -
Same here, I love autumn too and my birthday is in October!
I have bought a Flannelette King Size Sheet Set for £22 from Dunelm with 2 pillow cases, a flat sheet and a fitted sheet. I needed 2 pillow cases and a flat sheet for winter and it only cost £3 extra over buying the flat sheet and 2 pillow cases separately. Getting the fitted sheet means I could keep the duvet cover on for longer and just change and wash the fitted and flat sheets.
Only need one pale blue one on its own but can't find one in the same colour as yet so will keep an eye out.
Unfortunately no Lidl close by for the tights offer. Will go back to primark for the fleecy clothing and check this outfinal unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550
