This might sound a bit weird on the hot day it has been today ;) I have bought some fleecy pj's from primarni x2 pairs! Hope they fit ok. Last set bought from Mr Marks were rubbish quality and fell apart as did the socks so have switched to a cheaper pair now, uder £5 per pair and feel lovely and cosy. They also had a cosy fluffy fleece tracky or pjs or house clothes but couldn't find a price - will have a look at these later on.

Next thing is sort out the pj's and get rid of the worn out ones to make room for nice new ones! :D

Also got some snuggly long dance socks from TK Maxx to snuggle feet up in cosily in winter!

£1 (surprisingly!) a pack of household candles in Poundland ready for power cut box.

Under kitchen cupboards lagged with placky bags - see if it makes a difference later on

Last fleece bought from Mr T's for £2.50 - all done for now and just the spare room to winter proof a bit next month

I haven't had gas for years, so don't know how much it costs, but oil is very expensive. We usually fill the tank twice a year and currently pay £75 a month.

We were a few hundred in debt to the company last year when the prices rocketed, but they've gone down again for now and we're back on track for our DD payments to cover the cost of the oil.

The thing with gas is that you can get discounts from suppliers if you use the same one for your gas and electricity, whereas that obviously doesn't apply for oil.

So, if I had a choice, I think I'd get a place that has gas rather than oil.

ahhh thanks for that, and it is exactly as i suspected but i thought it might be worth a shot. 75quid a month in winter alone would be great but i'd not be keen on paying it all year long even when i'm not using any heat, so i think i'll steer clear!

Have a look at the forum on here that deals with using oil, as it depends so much on the size of house, where you buy your oil from, your insulation, use and the rest of it. I have a small detached house, isolated on a hill, wind constantly blowing all year round, from all directions. I'm wearing big woolly jumper now as it's freezing and no gas is available here. I pay a couple of hundred every 3 months in winter but haven't bought any since around January now and the tank is pretty empty. You have to shop around for oil prices, unlike gas, and the price changes from day to day. Again look at the forum, it gives loads of advice. There is no way I'd use the fuel to decide which house to rent, other things are far more important, in the end it 's down to your own usage as with everything else. You can't generalise.

And re paper logs, I've been making these, they dry ok if you keep them out of the rain, I tend to bring them in and stack them round the fire, even if the fire isn't lit they still dry out in room temperatures.. I find though that they burn fairly quickly, but they're a good additional fuel with coal, wood and peat. Thanks for the reminder to look for cones, there aren't many woods around here so a good excuse to go away for a couple of days.

Well it had to happen today, the hottest day of the year so far where I live... my first coal delivery (in anticipation) of Autumn usage arrived this morning! :rotfl:

I normally just have the loose coal in a huge pile in the garden but all the local kittys thought it was a gigantic litter tray just for them  so for a few pennies extra I chose to have it delivered in plastic sacks... no more rubber gloves or nose peg needed to sift through the kittys "presents" left for me, every time I want to fill the coal bucket in future :j

It has been pretty windy here over the last few weeks so I finally got around to fixing the broken bolt that keeps the back door flush to the door-frame! :T Now I know that not only will it stop the wind coming through in future, it will also stop the bl**dy rattling that has been a constant background noise over the last few months!

We picked tons of blackberries, elderberries and rosehips last week - they're all very early down here. We use them for wine so will have a glass to warm us up :D:D

As for the paper logs, I had a thought the other day about the amount of loo rolls we go through (we buy the value ones and they don't last long)..we're left with a lot of "middles" and I've saved them - next door saves all her newspapers for me and I'm going to soak the papers (torn into strips) in a large bin and then pack into the loo roll middles...then leave them to dry in the shed....this should give some handy sized fire rolls....just need to get the fire sorted out now (old gas fire needs removing as it doesn't work).

Also I saw yesterday in Oxford street Primark that they were reducing their large bedspread sized soft blankets (very very soft and fluffy) down to £5 from £12 - they had black and cream...I assume it will happen in all stores.

Woo hoo, on the hottest day of the year so far, I buy a kingsize duvet reduced to £25 from my local Argos. Boy was it heavy, and I hadn't taken my Oyster card with me so had to walk very slowly home :D

I've checked it and it includes 2 pillows and a mattress topper, plus it's vacuum-packed. That would explain the weight . I won't open it til tomorrow, but I'm getting a little excited re the start of the winter preparation.

I checked out the cost of a dehumidifier and I might have to leave that on the winter prep list for next year and actually use the tumbler and spin cycle this winter

I'll check out Primani for the pjs and possible fleeces this weekend but won't be able to buy any til I get paid next Friday.

Need to top up my candles supply too. Hey winter, bring it on. I can handle you, I think :rotfl::rotfl:
