Had a lovely wicker shopping basket on the window ledge that I've had for about 12 years, and the water had made it all mouldy uderneath :mad:0 -
I've been pricing "Thermals" for DD who has just joined the TA! Matalan have various styles of tops (thin straps, short & long sleeves), knee length and full length bottoms, for £5 per item. Lidl has a range coming in from 3rd November at £9.99 per item.
Thermostat much lower than last year, sitting with a fleece over my knees and a hot drink (off sick with rotten cold!) If I get cold, I'll do my wheat bags.
Aldi had moisture traps last week, but not sure how much. I'm almost certain B & Q do them as well.DMP mutual support thread No: 433 - Mortgage - £54,556, Credit cards - £4012, Unsecured loan - £3,376, Other - £419

Hi all, I covered several single glazed windows with plastic film, using velcro on those I would want to open.
Two problems have arisen, one is that there's permanent condensation between the glass and the film - this is easily dealt with by opening windows slightly for half an hour or so, but on the non-opening ones I don't know how to shift it. I tried undoing the tape for a while in a corner but it quickly comes back.
The other thing is that my cats have decided that ripping it is what cats like to do best!! I've tried now to remove the film but the tape has taken off great chunks of paint so all in all, not a great success!!!
What alternatives has anyone found? I thought of making secondary glazing with wooden batons and perspex but it works out quite expensive. The film made a lot of difference when I first put it up so I need something else that's good too.
Thanks

Has Aldi run out of their thermal stock? I have got two of their sets (long johns and long sleeved vest for women) at £7.99 each and been wearing them in the last few days (wonderfully warm and comfy too!).
I shall check the Lidl ones but at £9.99 apiece they are as expensive as M&S (and you can get cashback at Quidco if you order from M&S).
Will go to Aldi (and elsewhere) to look for moisture traps, these sound just like what I need! Thank you all for your suggestions.
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Like Mrstittlemouse says I got mine in Wilkinsons, cheapest moisture trap was £2.99 and they also did refils for £1.79 per bag. I put them together and onto the windowsills a couple of days ago but still find the windows are wet and puddles on the sills so not sure they were a good buy:mad:Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

I've been using the moisture traps too, on most windows. Like Pips Mum there are still some bits of water, I think its helping slightly. I think it got worse when I put up the thicker curtains. I still have to dry the windows every morning x0

angelite I have to dry windows each morning too and also think its worse since hanging the thicker curtains. Maybe we are just damned if we do and damned if we don`t:rotfl:Debt at LBM [strike]£17,544[/strike] £5700:TOver £14,000 PAID OFF :T

Im a Newbie (Sarah) and Im now starting to panic as its gettting cold.
Loads of ideas on this thread.Trying to change my life and will:money:0 -
Quick question if anyone knows. How much heat is lost if you don't have curtains on a window? We don't have any lined curtains and in DD2 and DS1's rooms they have two huge windows each and I only have one covered with an unlined curtain. Will it warm up significantly if I get around to curtaining them?
Ooo and another one, in their rooms they have open fireplaces, anyone know what I should use to block it up? I'm thinking that stuffing an old pillow up there isn't the best idea if I want to light a fire on the ground floor
elljay...when I was younger before my parents had double glazing I remember that they used to have sheets of glass with a plastic border around which you placed on the window and it had clips around it which would fasten the sheet into place. I think we only had it on none opening windows though, or ones we didn't want to open.Fluttering about an inch off the ground, I may fly properly one day and soar in the clouds!
