Tomorrow I will-
Go in search of a new duvet, I've seen woolies selling doubles for £8 (ish) so will see if they have any in or if not I'll consider a single as a mattress topper.
Look in my local charity shops for curtains, material and rugs.
Buy some candle holders.
Just wish I could get into knitting- Think it would solve a lot of my problems!!!0 -

you might find some pretty little dishes in the charity shop, to use as candle holders?... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Ooh yes I do have a Morrisons near me- stopped shopping there a while back though as I found their prices to be quite expensive
Will definately pop in there before I try woolies as that sounds a really fair price :j
Many Thanks LearningToSave0 -

Have got to clean down two draught excluders and make some sort of other curtain to go in the small alcove near the front door or over the letterbox to stop the draught so my dog doesnt get cold this winter. dammit ive got a busy week as it was ferkin freezing this morning in south wales
Sammy,
You know.. if you do buy new duvets, don't throw out the old ones! you could use the old ones - either as mattress toppers, so you effectively snuggle down between 2 duvets, or make a new dog's bed out of it (ours sleeps on an old sleeping bag, together with a fluffy dog's bed and a blankie and she's warm enough, though she creeps on the bed in the middle of the night!) or you could use it to line the door curtain - you'd need to make sure you get a very strong curtain pole, and you'd need to get some kind of material to put either side, or use a duvet cover - it depends if the duvet is big enough. I'm sure there are other things you can do too. Maybe turn them into lap quilts? you say you've got draught excluders, but you could, in theory, have them all through the house - if you make it so that your excluder has a "flap" along one side, then you can use upholstery tacks to attach the flap to the door, so that as the door opens and closes, the draught excluder moves with it. This is only any good if the door doesn't open against a wall though.

as for draft excluders, last year a sewed 2 pillows together end to end and then folded them in half and sewed the edges together. i covered them in some old fabric and bobs your uncle job done.
Brilliant idea! I don't have any spare pillows, but a couple of cheap ones from M&S would do the trick, and I could cover them in some of the huge roll of curtaining I got (free!) a couple of years ago.bought a new quilt earlier in the year and it's an all seasons one, one thin one, one thicker one and you button them together for a heavy winter one. it was reduced from £60 to £20 in debenhams and is very warm (and heavy!!) in the winter.
I've ordered some of these for my children from the catalogue as they only have thin ones at the moment and have been getting chilly at night.0 -
Yippee,
I've just got back from town and brought my winter duvet from Morrisons... It is a 15 tog, double duvet made by slumbalux and cost.... £6 :j
I'm chuffed to bits cos the one in woolies was £13 so thanks very much LearningToSave!!!!!!!!!
I also brought some tea light holders from woolies for... 24p each :j and they're nice and chunky glass one's.
I also got a massive fleece blanket for cold nights on the sofa... For £5
and lastly...
I got a pair of new ikea curtains in brown which will go with the decor (bonus) for £4.75 and enough material to line them for £1.15 and they are huge, think I can easily do 3 windows with them!!! Unfortunately not long enough to be a door curtain
All in all a good day0 -
I can't find anything anywhere to make a door curtain for my front door. We used to have a material shop that sold remnants but its now closed. Checked out my local market and even some charity shops but can't find anything. Not sure what to do now really. I did get some draught excluding tape just got to summon the effort to apply it now! :rolleyes:Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000

Oh I forgot to get the draft excluding tape!!!!!
Where did you get yours from Boomdocker?
I used to work in oxfam and know from experience that there is usually a lot of material and linen out the back... Maybe worth asking at your local charity shops? Also ask if they can keep stuff aside for you as we used to do it for people0
