Wilkinsons - they have the sticky foam variety and some plasticy strips too. I went for the foam ones as I can easliy apply those. They had quite a choice including letter box, bottom of the door excluders amongst others.

but my parents were offered it by someone who was just gonna send it tip tip. they paid only £100. it worth thousand now. and to them it is priceless. they got house valued and estate agent said i hop eur leave aga it will add x amount onto your house. my parent's where like. no way wherever we move to it is coming with us. it a gorgeous aga. i'd love one.

With bubs due in a few weeks i'm going to stock up on freezer bagettes to go with soups and pasta meals, plenty of pasta and plenty of veg and veggie pies.. Gosh that sounds really boring

My house is sooo much warmer tonight!!! I managed to line and hang the curtains in the bedroom, line the living room curtains (with the no longer needed) curtains from the bedroom and I've not had to use my candles or fleece blanket yet... In fact I'm sat here in 3/4 bottoms and a vest top!!!!!

  • Hapless & denise_h mention the sticky plastic diy double glazing that you put on with the aid of a hair dryer (I remember my Dad doing it too). I dont suppose anyone knows if you can still get it & if so where & what sort of price???? Could really do with it for a couple of windows in house this year.
    Thanks in Advance.

I know they sell it in Wilkinsons - I bought some yesterday and it was £9.99 for a 12 square metre pack. They also do a smaller (6 square metre pack) for £5.49.

  • Well I guess my preperation for winter is pretty much all baby related! I need to do up the nursery, get a snowsuit, knit a blanket and generally stock up.

I've also cleared out the wardrobe/drawers. I'm going to buy new stuff once the baby arrives because my old stuff is getting pretty shoddy.

  • This is a great thread, thank you for all your ideas. One tip for cheap curtains etc is to go to a jumble sale, I got some lovely heavy lined curtains last week for 40p! and they are a 90" drop and a lovely beige colour so i'm very happy, can't wait for the next jumble now as i'll get some more to make draft excluders and a pocket quilt cushion.

Well I have also ben inspired by this thread (and the very cold weather today!). I had already decided to have a large heavy curtain made for the lounge (we currently have roman blinds up). We are in an edwardian terrace with single glazing and it is cold when the wind blows! We have a very heavy chenile curtain up the door so I am going to have one made to match for the window too.

But in the dining room the floor is tiled (practical yes, my choice NO!) which makes it cold. So I want to get a large rug to try to warm it up a little but they are soooooooo expensive. I want a big enough one to go under a 6x4' dining table, so needs to be a pretty big rug-on the net they are about £200. Does anyone know where I might get one from cheaper?

I shall be starting to stock up on coal and wood soon for the fires too. I have already started to stock up on candles and am intending to get a warm throw for the lounge-not sure what type to go for yet..any recommendations?

    Brrr it's cold tonight!
