  • Reading through all the messages I have seen lap quilts and pocket quilt cushions mentioned.

Would someone give me an idea how to make them please. I've got a spare quilt that I was going to use as an underblanket but these 2 ideas sound appealing aswell.

    Thanks

I want a big enough one to go under a 6x4' dining table, so needs to be a pretty big rug-on the net they are about £200. Does anyone know where I might get one from cheaper?

Join your local Freecycle - someone might have moved house and it's too big for them now! Keep trying - things come up all the time.

Failing that if you're handy why not buy a carpet remnant and do something with the edging yourself?

The North wind today has reminded me to:

    1) Start keeping a reserve of milk and bread in the freezer in case we can't get out - and a couple of packets of bread mix.

    2) Check the powercut box is still stocked in case anything has been borrowed and NOT replaced.

    3) Check the battery in the car torch is OK.

    4) Get the "Winter Driving" bag out of the attic (has mittens, thick socks, wooly hat, vaccuum flask, a "nightlight stove", waterproof clothing, boots etc. etc.) and put in car together with an extra blanket. Also get the car sun shades out - (reflective ones put on the wrong way round helps reduce heat loss out of the window). - Yep been there done that.

    5) And check the local councils gritting routes for this winter.

..............am intending to get a warm throw for the lounge-not sure what type to go for yet..any recommendations?

    Brrr it's cold tonight!

Do you have an Ikea near you? If so, check them out as they have some nice ones and some of them aren't too expensive.

Or have a look at their on-line catalogue first:

Message for board guides - I hope it's OK to post links  - if I've done something wrong, please remove the posting.

Try Dunelm if there's one near you - they sometimes have fleece blankets at around £5 though I have bought them reduced to £2.99. Really warm and a good single size.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

the one i got my son was £5. it is 250cm by 180 cm. i got it from QS. it is a double i think , as i have to fold it in half on sons single bed. but at least that means it double thickness.he was really snuggled last night. good job as freezing.

I definetly intend on doing this, this year. Early on this year we left our shopping until we'd got no food in the freezer and HAD to go when we had the bad snow fall. This ended up with us getting the car stuck half way down the estate and having to carry the shopping as well as the kids.

As for getting ready for winter, I need to get wellies for DD and DS2 as well as myself for dogwalking. Also need to ensure we have all got scarves, hats and gloves.
After reading all this thread, I think I might try and line my living and bedroom room curtains, try and get thermal blind to stop draughty kitchen window. My childrens rooms have aluminium blinds, any ideas for being able to keep their rooms a little warmer?

I also intend on looking out for throws as I get older ( altough I am only 28) I seem to be feeling the cold more and like to cuddle up on the sofa. Also looking at getting a slow cooker to do stews in, nothing beats cuddling up with a steaming bowl of stew on a winters evening.
