Why have candles nearly doubled in price since thursday?
I popped in to the hardwear bits n bobs shop on thursday to get some plain thick candles (inbetween church size and dinner candles) and they were £1.89 for 6, didnt have enough money to get that and some other bits and bobs so i would pop back yesterday evening when i had somemore money, thay are £ 3.49 now!
I could have gone to wilko's but all they have is scented which gives me headaches.
Is there a rush-on on candles?0 -
Gah, we had a barbecue last night, so the doors were open all night. So, we had to have the heating on for fifteen minutes. We did well in trying to not put the heating on until October (Other Half's wish-time, mine was November 1), and hopefully we won't have to put it on again for a while, but it's a shameContinually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!0

Well I've been buying myself a few of those folding silverfoil-y sheet type things with suckers on that one puts on car windowscreens as a sunshield. Saw them in a £1 shop and thought "cant see any reason why I shouldnt stick them behind radiators on outside walls and with those suckers presumably "stick" is the operative word" - hmmm.....
Anyone else tried them - or am I in for a revisit to the shop to get my money back?
what a good idea.
No so**ing around with foil on cardboard etc.
I can see no reason why that shouldn't work. if they dont stay stuck with suction caps can always use bluetack or sticky pads.
shame I dont need them:rolleyes:0 -
Well i think i have nearly readied up for winter..
Bought candles, camping stove (and gas) Fleeces for beds, Extra quilts for under the bed bottom sheet. Thermal flanellete bed sheets all round. Winter coats out and washed in readiness. Hats, gloves and scarfs all present and correct. List of slippers need. Wellies bought for those who will join in puddle jumping ( Me and DS 9) Torches and wind up lamps bought. Fleece bought to go over the leather sofas ( leather is soooooo cold) Doggie has 2 fleece doggie blankies.
Still bits and bobs i want to pick up. But having had no heating for the past 5 years, we are pretty used to surviving the cold. Mind this year i actually have working central heating but not enough money to have it on for as often as i would of hoped lol. Its not been on yet either and i have no intention of putting it on until.... i have too
Right off to check my list and see what else i can find that needs doingfurrypig says:my name is Choccy and I am addicted to nose free stamps as I want to save them all and give them noses!!!:rotfl:

hi, i got a letter from southern electric the other day asking to call them, i did so and they said i owe them about £750 as i am on a prepayment meter i was very shocked. she asked me to tell her the tariff readings on my meter, and then she told me i have been paying 2004 tariff all this time. she asked if she could get back in touch with me so she could add up how much i owed and in less than 10mins she was back on the phone saying i owed £328 not sure how she could figure out all that in 10 mins! she said they haven't had a meter reading in all the time i have been with them which is not true as i've had meter readers out to the house quite a few times over the years and have also gave in my own readings also. can they get away with charging me when they should be doing more to keep people up to date, they never even sent out letters in all that time! any help appreciated. thanks0

That sounds out of order to me. Not the money you are supposed to owe as of course I can't comment on that, but the fact that your meter has been read as you describe yet you have never been contacted until now. That said, I would suggest you re-post your question by starting a thread on the Gas & Electricity board as you will get lots of advice in there.
Here is the link for the board: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=13
Best of luck!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

I agree with Quasar, sounds like they've made a huge error and wanting you to pay for it... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

my understanding is that if they have messed up they can only come for the last 12 months worth of money. I heard it on Radio 5 when they were discussing a similar situation which had gone on for seven years. Whatever you do DO NOT PAY until you are clear where your rights are - if necessary visit the CAB or check with Energy Watch0 -

smug.......me......never
Thanks for the advice. I passed it onto my mum last night and told her to put the heating on. When I popped round this afternoon, I noticed the difference straight away. She has said that she is going to put it on for a couple of hours again this evening and I'm sure the house will be toasty enough soon. My mum is also in the process of putting card wrapped in foil behind all her radiators as well, so that should help soon. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
