I plan to do the air/heat seepage tests this weekend. This is where you take a smoke source, I use a lit incense, and run it along the peripheral of windows and doors, to see if there is any air coming in. This lets you know where you are losing air/heat as well so that you can properly insulate those areas.

This is a quote I got from another site, thought I'd pass it on.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

Has anyone seen any fingerless gloves around yet? I've been told by my doctor I need to try and keep warm (sensitive circulation apparently), but I use the computer a lot and I can't type while wearing normal gloves (trust me I tried :o:rotfl::rotfl: ), my toes however are sorted ;). I would have got the USB ones someone mentioned but I'll be wanting the gloves for when I'm reading, watching TV and stuff as well, I may even wear them out over my other gloves once the frosty mornings start ;) Oh and I can't knit anything other than scarves/blankets so that option is out too :p:rotfl::rotfl: It might also save my electricity bill as well since I keep having to make hot drinks to keep my fingers warm! (Thermos recommended by my mum will be bought next time I go to Woolworths ;) )

Tesco have them - you get one pair of "normal" gloves and a pair of fingerless ones for £3...but I think they were part of the money off knitwear promo last week so you were getting them for about £2.50.

  • Firstly thanks for the comments about the duvets - I'm off to Asda or Matalan this weekend

Secondly - we've just got an eco friendly towel rail which is dry and so uses less energey( fon't ask me how) - got it on the web, was less than £100 and uses as much energy as a light bulb, so we have it on all the time at the mo - drys washing, gives cosy towels and warms the bathroom!

I know it uses little energy as we have one of the energy meters -came from Eon with the energy saving tariff we have

Finally, re the babies - we have used either fleccy suits on our kids when they were tiny or baby sleeping bags. Now they are 3 and 5 , they are in bed and snuggly under the duvet. I don't worry about them once they are in bed as it's snuggly and so, we don't heat their room at night ( in fact when I get my way, the window stays open all year - northern upbringing!).

Hoping that we can really limit the heating use this year - towel rail for the bathroom and opem fire for the lounge using up all the previous owners coal!

Of course, if the mild winter comes true, we'll all be very happy - heres hoping!

Going to ikea tomorrow. Going to get a couple fleece blankets, last time they had a bunch of them for £1.79 which were really snug. Although my last one was taken by my Jack Russell when I was teaching her to use her dog bed because she loves it.

Going to get some tealights and afew candles too, I was sat at my laptop yesterday with a big candle and 4 tealights burning and felt abit snug-er after me and my sister finished joking pretending to warm our hands with it while quoting scrooge lines from a muppets christmas carol.

    Hi all

Just nipped out and come home with a great thing for keeping the cold at bay... Its for my mum -I always worry about her tripping over her blanky... this one opens up into a normal blanky but then zips up so far and has little studs to make the sleeve bits :T ... should keep her toasty n warm -and it was only €7.98 -about £6.40 ... they only had beige, brown, cream combo -but im sure she won't mind:D

They also had all manner of slippers -from the bit puffy quilt ones to ones with wheat bags in the soles that you zapped in the microwave :p .. I was tempted -but i just can't keep anything on my feet -no matter how cold they are

When we were little, I remember clothes getting put under the mattress so they would be free from room chills the next morning...wonder if that would work with towels too--obviously dry ones.

I've struck gold--more cream-coloured :p --as I was talking to me muvva the other day...she found a goodly stockpile of curtain linings she had kept over the years :j so I'm going to be busy sorting out which ones will fit with the least amount of effort on my part re:alterations :o
