I have just read an article on the BBC which says we are going to have a very mild winter, I wish they would make up their minds

But didn't they tell us the other day what a cold, harsh, bitter, snowy winter we were going to get? Anyway, as they have hedged their bets whichever one we get they can now say "see, told you!"

We had a lot of snow last winter. They said it would be bad because of all the berries - well theres just as many berries this year as last one...
  • Hi everyone,
I've just been reading this thread with great interest and intend to get on with at least SOME of the ideas suggested as we are really struggling at the moment and have our baby due in a month and are determined not to heat the house until she arrives and maybe not even for a little while after that if it's at all possible. (We live in a 2 bed terrace)

With the tin foil behind the radiators- do you have to use a special kind of tine foil at all, and which side of the foil should face the radiator (in to the room) shiny or dull?

I'm making a list of all the things I want to try and get implemented in time for next winter in the hope we can cut our bills a bit then.

Can anyone tell me where you get these energy monitor things that tell you which objects are using the most electricity in your house at a time- the only ones I can see seem to cost a fortune!

They cost £50 from the E.ON web shop. Is that where you've seen them?

You can buy "special" foil for behind your radiators but it costs a fortune. So I just used normal foil wrapped around pieces of cardboard and then pinned behind the radiators. The cardboard provides extra insulation and the heat deflects back off the foil!...It cost me 2 rolls of mr s basic wrapping foil at approx 33p each!

Sorry to sound dense but how does it work with Lidl offers? I don't have one near me but will be in a town that does sometime next week so thought I'd call in and get a few things (esp the mini footwarming slipper duvets!!). However they're not on the website any more, there's just a load of art stuff. Does that mean I've missed my chance or would they still keep them if they're left over? Is it the same with Aldi and Netto too?

    Thanks

Aldi had one on offer this Sunday for £6.99, if you've got a store nearby you could ask if they've got any left. They're the ones that you plug each appliance into to see how much energy it uses.

I've just checked this weeks specials and they've got a Thermo fleece blanket on this Sunday for £4.99 if anyone's interested.
