Someone on here (I think) mentioned a wind up lantern. Cheapest I've seen on-line is £19.00 but I saw one for £14.99 in Robert Dyas yesterday. Has anyone got one? Are they any good? I'd like to get one for emergencies, but maybe also as a night light, or if the light is good enough, for reading - maybe if I bought two?

    Thanks for any advice.

Oh gawd yes! £20 is a lot now! We got ours reduced at Woolies for £7.99 back in June/July, and there have been a few posts saying that they've got similar from other shops.

Oh god the sale. Don't go there. I have NO money at all and I want half of the sale !! I love mohair, because its so warm yet so light, and they have some gorgeous mohair.. SOB
I was in knitting/yarn shops online and they all seem to specialize in hand dyed sock wool at £50 an ounce.

Bigga wool makes me look like an orang outang in a cardi. Dont go there.
  • Does anyone here have any bright ideas for a front door that opens directly onto the front room? I dread anyone knocking on the door and yell at the kids to stop trapsing in and out as the downstairs is open plan and all the warm air just gets sucked out. We do have a back door, which opens into the conservatory which then has a seperate patio door into the house, but we keep the back gate locked as we have a toddler so it's a pain to keep going out and letting them in - but even if the older kids could use that all the time it doesn't solve the problem of people knocking at the front.

We've been here for 12 years now and love the house but I hate this front door problem in the winter. Every winter I want to move but come the spring I'm happy again!

Not sure if this has been said yet, but my mum went to Wilkinsons yesterday and she bought a wind up torch for £3.99

Just thought it may help someone :)
  • Loopy - is there space near your back gate that you could possibly put a baby gate across after the gate itself, that way you could get kids to use the back door, gate could be shut or left open for them to access but you would have the baby gate there so no toddler escaping?

also if a baby gate isnt quite wide enough you could screw some wooden slats to the side to help reduce the gap
    Time to find me again
