  • I have managed to get myself two full sets of flanelette budding. It was a bit difficult as we have 2 singles joined together and share a KS duvet. I had to search around for white sheets as I had such a mish mash of sheets etc while the children were at home and resolved since then to stick to white if possible. I got 2 deep fitted sheets and pillow cases in one store and then had to hunt for flannel duvet covers, which I got from john lewis. They are patterned but have a white background. Thats me well and truly broke now and definitely no holiday abroad this winter. Oh well, back on my bike instead and leisurely days out with my dh

    Hi just discovered this thread, tried to post but it all went pear-shaped & now I can't remember what I said!:mad:

    I do know I need to:
    • Make curtains or similar for bathroom/landing windows & both external doors;
    • Do an emergency box for the car;
    • Stock up on candles, dry goods, bottle water, etc - even though we don't usually have problems, I fear that 'something wicked this way comes' in terms of winter weather or power problems or costs!
    • Batch cook/bake & fill up freezers.
    Just had loft insulation done free via scheme run by our council - everyone living within the authority could have loft and/or cavity wall insulation done free if it was needed - council had a windfall & spent it wisely for once! Hope it makes some difference to heating bills. Must read this whole thread cos I've probably missed loads of good stuff! I will be back!!

    That is a good one Gemma!
    Here we make sure the car is tip top before winter as I depend on it to get to work. My DH also services all the biks as the kids depend on those to get to school!.. He checks the tires, the brakes and makes sure all lights are working. (We live in Holland.. we bike pretty everywhere we go. :D )

    A very good tip indeed. Making sure all your equipment is in order. Wouldn't want to get stranded on a crucial moment now would we?

  • We dont have heating here, only a halogen heater (which is quite good actually) sooooo instead of heating a big living room we have swapped rooms! Our big living room is now our bedroom (I dont like heating in there anyway) and the small bedroom is now our sitting room. It is very cosy :j
    My son has the big bedroom still so I better find a way of keeping it cosy. It has blinds and curtains.. any other ideas?

  • Thanks for the tip off on fleecy pjs - I got 2 pairs each for the kids today and 1 pair for me for when dh is away (I'm married to a small furnace). Ds2 has rotten circulation so they will be brilliant for him.
