I don't know if it would be rude as such but it might be a bit strange to suddenly produce your own salt and pepper pots at the meal table :rotfl: I would just ask them for salt and pepper and if they really haven't got any you might just have to eat the meal as it comes. It's only one meal, after all.left the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

Not exactly the same thing but no-one in our house takes sugar on a regular basis but I've got a stash of sugar just in case0

I don't put any salt in my cooking.
I have Menieres Disease, and control it by following a low sodium diet.
But I put the salt mill on the table, so people can add it if they want to.
Salt free cooking shouldn't be dull as there's a multitude of herbs and spices that can be used.
Perhaps you need to buy them a spice rack for Christmas!Early retired - 18th December 2014

Is this a trick question? :rotfl: I would just say "sorry to be a pain, do you have any salt/pepper?" - thats a perfectly reasonable request isn't it?! I wouldn't mind if someone asked me that in my house!0

If they dump salt over your delicately spiced meals after tasting it, or after a history of similar meals, then perhaps it's not as nice as you think. Dumping beforehand gives you the benefit of the doubt, as it's habit. Dumping after means it really is naff so you should be more offended if anything.
Life's too short, let them enjoy their food how they like it. Mashed potatoes without any salt is bland, fish and chips without salt and vinegar the same, a few condiments transform them.My wife certainly doesn't ever get offended in the slightest. She doesn't even mention it.
Sure about that, there may be years and years of simmering resentment under the hood;), waiting to blow a gasket0 -
No, wean yourself off the salt, it's not good for you. Take a pepper mill though and buy one for them as a presentBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

My kids like both more sugar and salt than me. I was so worried at one point I had it checked out. I sometimes shudder outwardly when they put it on.
I would never feel offended for a request and I never put it on table apart from Christmas!!Don’t put it down - put it away!

I add plain mustard powder to my mash - not bottled or prepared mustard sauces. No salt added to colmans mustard powder.0
