Get yourself Truecall. We very rarely get pestered these days even though the log shows we still receive a multitude of calls.0

I wonder if there might be a short delay when you first register your name with BT (or whoever) before your number is made ex-directory, just long enough to allow somebody to find your name and number on the publicly-available databases?
Take a look at the discussion on this link:

I don't think being ex-directory makes any difference at all - my number was ex-directory when I moved in, 20 years ago.
I always though that these nuisance calls were computer generated and used all number combinations.
TPS will only stop those who play by the rules.
I regularly get the 0203 , *0, *999999 etc. Just let them ring and use call barring where I can (OK for 0203 but not the others)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I'm ex-directory and get a couple of nuisance calls a week. I'm usually at work during the day but notice odd numbers on 1471 and if I can be bothered I google them and they're invariably telesales or a scam. When I am in and answer they always know my name.
I used to get regular calls from "Windows Support" but after a while I explained that I know that they're trying to con me and that I wasn't going to fall for it so they should save us both time and remove my details from their list. I don't know whether this did the trick or it was just a coincidence but I haven't heard from them since.0 -
Solved the issue now and it explains everything Talktalk had a data breach last year.
""The data that was accessed was names, home addresses, phone numbers and TalkTalk account numbers""

yup I have a home phone as part of a internet package , its plugged in , I do not use it , now 0800 is free on mobiles , and calls are only 3p a minute compared to BT/talktalks conection charges + pence per minute , the is no need to use it.
the only calls made from this number have been to the o870 number that talk talk provides for service , my last 12 mths bills are here showing no calls.
however I get at least 2-3 calls per week , people who know my name/address and other info
there is only one place this info came from0 -

the company I mentioned (SWITCHGATE UK LTD) are an IP proverer/changer , they accept calls into the uk , via the indian/whoever company , then re transmit / send out the calls using one of there valid phone lines , so the precipitant is not fooled
several of those companies have been fined , but the companies just shut down and reform the following day , notice the owners are not UK residents0
