Simple get truecall or the BT BT8500.
I doubt we can rely on ICO or Ofcom to stop these type of parasites now its gone way beyond that. If they use technology to make hundreds of calls a minute we can do same to reject such calls. In end they will give up. Its a shame the law still doesn't not give enough protection even though in Feb 2015 it was tightened up.0 -
I'm also ex-directory, and have been for several years, but I've been experiencing similar problems, but was recently given some advice which might help anyone in the same boat.
First of all make sure that you have 'Opted Out' of the Open Electoral Register, as this version is, as the name suggests, openly available. If you can't remember if you ticked the box or not when you completed your Election Form, just contact your local Council Office, the Registration Department, advising them that you wish to Opt Out of the Open Register.
The second thing to do is just google your details, and see what company directories you are listed in, such as:-
192.com
White Pages
Each company will have their own set of Opt Out procedures, some which you can complete on line, others, you will need to download their form and either post / fax / email them back to them. The length of time they are supposed to take to amend / delete your details will vary from company to company, and so it is not an over night process, but should hopefully help in the future.
Hope this helps.

I been ex directory for around 15 years and member of TPS for well over 10. Plus I have informed town hall not to pass on my details via electoral roll. But I still get cold calls I suspect they just call random numbers.0

I am also registered with TPS, and have been ex-directory for about 10 years, however, I have found my local Council Office to be most helpful and supportive, as they have been receiving a high volume of similar requests regarding this problem.
The Council representative that I spoke to explained that although your current and future details will not be included in any further Electoral Records, older records that have previously been released, and available for sale (to any unscrupulous buyer), they have no jurisdiction over, and therefore, you have to then contact each company individually, and 'Opt Out' of their Directory(ies).
As I said, not a quick process to go through, but you have to cut off any avenues and holes these people can get through.0 -
Virtually all home phones now have caller ID facility. If my phone rings and that person is in my contacts list I answer it, if not then I don't. If it's an important call they'll leave a message, if it's not they'll hang up and I wouldn't have wanted to speak to them anyway. I think my phone provider (Plusnet) charge me 99p per month.0

I'm afraid that we will have to agree to disagree on this matter, as not all phones have a caller ID display facility, and elderly people not as astute as you, will pick up the phone and answer it.0 -

Hey! I'm "elderly":(:)
I did say "virtually", but that aside, it wouldn't do any harm for families to look into the possibility of caller ID and remind their "elderly" and not so elderly relatives/friends that there are ways to at least minimise calls from these parasites.
Actually, my friend has just purchased a phone (think it's BT) that recognises if the caller's number is not in the contact list and rings her and asks if she wishes to take the call. If she says 'no', that number is put on her 'barred' list.0 -

No one is disputing the values and benefits of a caller display phone, however, "virtually" not all people have them, elderly or not, and I would be most interested to read any of your validated research material that supports your findings.
I thought this thread was to try and help people who are experiencing difficulties with nuisance telephone calls, and providing possible solutions on how to deal with them, and a caller display phone is obviously an option, however, sourcing the routes of the caller / organisations, and Opting Out of their directory is another.0 -

Of course I haven't any "validated research material", but I don't know anybody that hasn't got caller ID. I'm not disputing there are those that haven't.
All I'm offering is a suggestion as to how people can avoid taking these calls if they have caller ID. This is the way I manage them. It works for me, and therefore could work for others. As we know, nothing can be done via TPS etc. regarding the foreign, re-routed calls.0
