Late with rent.

It seems that you are waiting for the rent to be asked for each week instead of simply paying it. You know that it's £100 a week so pay it without being asked. I pay my rent to the HA by standing order, I don't wait for them to send a bill, it just gets paid each month.
For someone who is on a temporary tenancy you are playing a dangerous game.0 -
Ok I know I'm late paying rent but is this a little over overzealous...
Housing association. in England.
Rent is due on Mondays £100, I pay anytime up to Friday, I guess with the payment system it can take a couple of extra days before it hits my rent account, so yeah I'm late, this week I get a letter saying I'm 2 weeks late, even tho I paid a week on the Friday, I get a letter on Tuesday saying I'm late by 2 weeks (so 1 week was paid on Friday and the other week was 1 day late by Tuesday) even tho my online rent accounts says 1 week, no mention this is a problem for nearly a year until this week, when my tenancy is due to change from a starter year tenancy to a secured one, might have nothing to do with this but it does seem strange to get a letter again today saying I'm 2 weeks late and unless it's settled within 3 days an order of possession will be filed
I understand HAs need to keep on top of rent payments but to threaten a court order for 2 weeks rent seems excessive.
IMO that's exactly why they have done this. As you are a habitual late payer, they have seized the opportunity and fully intend to evict you and give your property to someone who will pay on time.0 -
Right, so you have been provided three payment methods and each has a 2 to 3 day delay. So let's say the due date is the 1st of the month, are you saying the payment methods would not accept payment before the 3rd - it would be bounced back?
Or, are you saying that the payment date is the 1st and it takes 2 - 3 days to get there?
If it's the first option, I'm sorry, but I simply don't believe you. No bank account (presumably) will only accept payments through a very small window of opportunity - why would it be restricted in that way? After all, everyone wants money as soon as possible, don't they?
So, we're left with the second option - they have told you the due date, you know it takes 2 - 3 days to be processed but feel as long as you INITIATE the payment on the due date, that's the HA's problem, not yours. Guess, what? It's not their problem, it's yours........and it always has been.
As for your last paragraph, are you seriously saying you can't pay your rent because its due date doesn't align with when you get paid? So how do you think everyone else manages? Does everyone else in the country get paid the day before all their expenses are due?
You may find a course in budgeting useful.
it was the latter.0 -

Absolutely - why would they want the aggro? Personally, I'd do the same.0 -

paid now...0 -
You may have paid it now but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't come up with another reason not to give you a secured tenancy!0

There are already eleven reasons - the last eleven delayed rent payments.
OP, I fear the damage has already been done. Be prepared to start looking for a new gaff and use this as a learning exercise.0 -
I wonder if they expect rent a week in advance.., which if your paying on Friday instead of the Monday, could make you two weeks in arrears.
If so, I'd pay a little bit extra each week until there's a reserve of at least a week's rent. Then if you pay late, its not such a big problem, Particularly if you are under a probationary type tenancy.
Not criticising, just thinking of solutions.
Obviously, living in private rental as I am, my LL would be fairly miffed if I kept paying four days late. And I don't think my reference would be too good. A person has to pay rent on time or find a way to make the system work.0 -
paid now...
If you find it difficult to match income to expenditure dates, why not get a free trial of You Need A Budget (YNAB) which is free for the first month. There's a support thread on the debtfree board and webinars on youtube (YNAB channel). It will cost you nothing to try and it might make things easier for you.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

4 weeks.
Last weeks up to Friday, next week and 2 more...I was never really 2 weeks behind, one week was always in process/over lapped.
Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.0
