Well, I installed Avast after using AVG for years. Avast found 4 infected files that AVG had missed. I suspected something was on my PC for a while because of some little odd behaviours. It seems to be fine now.
The spoken warnings and alerts are a funny novelty. But then I started to think what it would sound like if all programmers built this into their software!!!!!
So I'm converted. Thanks to the OP for the tip.0 -

I'm on dial-up at present, so perhaps I should wait until I get broadband in a week's time.
I did as Fran suggested but to no avail. It was taking too long to download.

Well, I've installed it on my new laptop but it still took over an hour to download!
I'll wait until I get broadband before installing it on my PC.

Umm! What's a download accelerator?
Excuse my ignorance!

Margaret, look on here for threads referring to "Onspeed" which compresses files so that they download quicker, though there are other programs around that cost nothing. But why not just let it download when you aren't doing anything else like Saturday morning.0 -
I have been using Avast now for 2 years (except when I went mad and tried Norton, expensive mistake!), I really dont see why anyone should want to pay for virus protection when a product like this is around. The same goes with spyware, firewalls etc.Old Faithful we roam the range together,

I installed it alongside AVG and it found three trojans on my system that our former favourite had missed completely!

I downloaded avast from the link. I now cannot access my computer when I switch it on. I cannot even get to the icons to click on anything. I have never had any problems with down loads before. Any ideas?
