Thanks

I eventually started the computer (with advice from this site) in safe mode and then backdated to a restore point.

Downloaded avast and Spybot-Search & Destroy and am not sure which is the culprit see here

Have tried to remove avast and Spybot-Search & Destroy but am unable to do so They are not in programmes list but I know they're there as I can find them using file search - however cannot delete - just comes up with various messages such as access denied.

At least computer is currently useable but haven't a clue what to do now though - have no Spyware/adware protection and no protection against those Trojans & Worms   sometimes I just wish I never started

Any ideas from you techie geniuses for deletion and appropriate protection appreciated.

Thanks

try safe mode and then look in the programs list for search and destroy and there should be the uninstall link.
Sorry cant help with Avast but I would look in the programs list for that one too and in c/programfiles to see if it has a folder there with an uninstall icon in. I think you cant remove them when not in safe mode because they are running.

If a program wont delete, it could mean that the installation wasn't complete or was corrupted. I know it may sound silly, but it's worth downloading them again and going through the installation again with the new download. Then try to uninstall the program. This has worked for me on quite a few occasions in the past for various programs.
