Forget AVG Anti Virus there's a new kid on the block

Options
On the subject of Trojans and the like I read some favourable reviews of a new, FREE, anti-virus program which actually got higher ratings than AVG in one of the Web Mags I get.

I installed it alongside AVG and it found three trojans on my system that our former favourite had missed completely!

For more info.

Yeah Avast has been around a while. I too prefer it to AVG, although it's interface isn't to my liking. Also it's currently the only anti-virus app I'm aware of that can run on Windows XP x64.

I switched from AVG to Avast about a month ago. There was a virus that AVG was detecting but not deleting properly so I switched and Avast found four viruses, including the one AVG found. It dealt with them no probs. Much, much better then AVG :)

I've heard good things about Avast, and I did see a press release from Eset (producers of NOD32) highlighting the number of viruses that AVG missed.

Avast isn't the only antivirus that works with XP64, there is also a 64 bit version of Symantec Corporate and the 64 bit version of NOD can't be far off.

Ah yeah, Symantec definitely have one that will work. Also, McAfee Enterprise 8 works with it too. No of these are 64-bit though, they are just 64-bit compatible. NOD32 should be out this Summer, although I don't think it'll be 64-bit either.

Cheers Andrew. Am just going to download and try it. Been using AVG for years. Maybe time for a change. :)
  • Yes been running avg for a long time now . Time for a spring clean I thought - glad I did install AVAST it took about 2 mins to download and a further 30 mins to scan my hard drive . Found a load of trojans and malware which avg had picked up but not deleted . Thanks andy for this great program!! :j
