2-3 k a year? Do you really need a car at all? Owning and keeping a car for that little mileage might not be all that good value...0

It's not DM again is it?0

For that mileage I'd suggest looking at car clubs. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

At that mileage, a petrol Focus or Astra would suite you better.
Diesels need to be driven (and I don't just mean on the school run either).
As a diesel owner, I will point out that the diesel engine only returns the best mpg when up to full operating temperature. When cold, it will return some horendously low figures.Never Knowingly Understood.

Read the thread on bangernomics success to get some ideas,an older car is probably more reliable if it's been looked after and will be cheaper to repair.I just talked to a trader at the local car auction who was moaning about the technology on modern vehicles,he sold a 2007 Hyundai Santa fe 8 months ago and had the customer back with running problems. They took it to the main dealer who quoted £5500 to replace the fuel pump and injectors etc blaming contaminated fuel. The problem is now that many dealers will quote silly money because they are unsure of the problem and want to make sure they're covering themselves if the repair mushrooms into a bigger problem than originally diagnosed. Its getting to the point where used cars will have very little value once the manufacturer warranty expires.
Personally I will not pay more than a few hundred pounds for a car, mainly because I can do my own repairs and without needing to plug it into a computer to diagnose the problem.0 -
An older car may be better than say a 5 or 6 year old car, as the more New car would need the repairs. The cheaper car may be better because of the repairs, so it may be more like a newer car than the more expensive car. When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche

macman : What is a car clubs?
patman99 : Thanks a lot for the information
FreddieFrugal: The size of a 206 is ok, and as many people said, looks like I have to go for an old car (min 6 years? )
Thank you everybody for the comments .
I decided to be more flexible, but my answers might be more stupid because of poor knowledge about cars, however, what you guys think about Volvo,Honda or Hyundai ? and last but not least, the insurance cost for me is important to be low .0 -
What is a car clubs?
Have a look at this site...

A lot of cities, and even some smaller towns, have a way of car-sharing, basically hiring a car by the hour or day as and when you need it.0
