In my experience French cars are ok but they don't have longevity and seem to fall to bits as they approach 100k miles.

meh the petrol clio i had hit 140k miles before i got rid and the diesel clio i had hit 250k - as everyone is saying it really does depend on model and year and just good/bad luck

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

Nearly 400,000 miles in supermini buzzboxes... you have my sympathy.

Wow THANKS all! I really amazed about how many people replied here :) really happy! I hope to find a place to ask my questions about business and it's advertising in the UK as well! and get many usful comments, anyway sorry to talk off topic, let me answer you now guys :

marlot : really not sure, but not a lot, lets say maximum 1-2 hours each day.

FreddieFrugal : Yes it is low, but really liek to travel from time to pay and not to worry about paying for petrol, that is why I was thinking about buying a diesel one . May I ask why your answer is NO to a used peugeot?

LandyAndy : Thanks for your respond, I had a 405 six years ago, and had not a single problem with it for like 2 years :)

andrewf75 : Thanks, please let me know more about your point of view .

thescouselander : Hmm, personally I think any car would broke into pieces after 100k?

jase1 : because of the cost and they looks good, I care how a car looks .

DominicH : Thanks, what models you suggest and why ?

jase1 : does this really depends on the car or the way you maintain it? what is your suggestion for me ?

Any modern diesel needs regular long runs to keep the exhaust filter happy. On top of that, the Peugeot/Ford 1.6 diesel has a reputation... Avoid it like the plague.

No, French cars aren't any worse than average in general, and many cars share a lot of bits with small vans which will happily do 50k+ per year.

If you're looking around £2k, avoid dealers - you will get a MUCH better car for the money privately, and you'll have relatively little comeback on a dealer at that price anyway, because a lot of faults will be age/mileage related.

Thanks for your respond, so if I don't use the car for long long distances it is not a good idea to but a diesel one ?

What is the best place to buy private cares?

What do you think about 206-207 and 308 ?

    Thanks for your time.

You won't get a decent 308 for £2k. A late 307 petrol could be a decent buy. Look on Autotrader for local private sales. Bear in mind that private sellers at that price point may well be selling because they know there is an expensive fault.
  • Pug made some fantastic cars that are still going strong, 405 a prime example, durable enough to make the Germans hang their heads on phoney shame, breath not held.

Its wrong to dismiss or praise any maker absolutely, they all build or have built good cars, and they all built and/or are currently building cars that won't stand the test of time.

Still waiting for your annual mileage. Diesels generally are not a good idea unless you do more than 10K per year, and the economies will be small at that mileage.
