The government has imposed a minimum price.

The Scottish Government wants to impost a minimum unit price for alcohol. Would you describe that as a tax?

May I suggest you look up a definition of "tax". I just did and the first one that came up is "a compulsory contribution to state revenue".

The only tax involved here is the VAT which is going to the Government and not "good causes".

The guidelines are irrelevant. All that matters is the law.

And can you justify your claim about Tesco? Because their website says "Proceeds generated from the charge, excluding VAT and reasonable costs, will be donated ..."

OMG are you really getting your knickers in a twist about this? I need about 6/7 normal carrier bags max when I go shopping. Asda do 6p bags for life (you get them replaced for free if they look tatty). I bought 4 of these which will hold about 8 bags of normal shopping.

All this nonsense over for what has been my entire lifetime cost of 24p and people take to forums moaning as if it's ruined their entire lives!

    Seriously, get a grip!

I live in a flat with a communal bin area. Put some rubbish in the bin and saw two new Sainsburys 5p bags with rubbish in them.

Do these tenants know it's cheaper to buy bin liners?

These tenants visit my shop and never bring any bags of their own.

How thick are these tenants? Most of them don't work and just breed children like rabbits

I think you've answered your own question there!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

For someone who works in a service industry you really are quite unpleasant about the people you serve.
Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama ;)

Not to their faces I'm sure. We are all entitled to air our views, so long as we don't openly cause offence to people whose lifestyle we don't agree with.

I was in a charity shop today . I spent about£30 on two tweed coats.
The member of staff asked if I wanted a carrier bag, as they are 5p.
I believe he had some learning difficulties.
I said yes, but when he produced a tiny bag I suggested my items wouldn't fit into them, at which point he went out to the back of the shop and produced two big paper carriers...

What's the point of this post?

Is it just to mock a charity worker who has learning difficulties and didn't realise two of your coats wouldn't fit in a plastic carrier bag?

Our area is so poor that the council have given ,via newsagents, free plastic-lined woven bags.

They are an ad for the local markets, but quite nice as they fold flat with poppers to keep so.

My wife walked out of a shop today after listening to three people in the queue argue with the assistant about the rights and wrongs of charging 5p for a bag.
