This is why the English were left to the last !
God knows how you would have coped with the Poll Tax if the Scots hadn't got rid of it!

Correct me if im wrong but I believe in Scotland, Wales and Ireland it includes All bags, where as in England it seems there is a large variety of anomaly's, ie, bags under a certain thickness, bags with handles, not paper bags, bags from certain shops, bags containing specific items.............and so on.
I also hope that is well advertised which charities will be getting a cut of the funds collected.WWSD(what would Scooby Doo)0 -

Here's the Wales exemptions:
Here's the Scotland exemptions:
The Northern Ireland exemptions run to six pages of this document (pages 13 - 18):
Now, I have not read any of those links in great detail, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that they are all pretty similar.I also hope that is well advertised which charities will be getting a cut of the funds collected.0 -
Not sure what led you to believe those other three countries were 'all embracing', but as you are happy to be corrected, I will.

Keep hoping. Each retailer could choose to support different 'good causes'.
Good old Northern Ireland why use one page when you can stretch it to six.0 -
Well the Tesco checkout lady I spoke to, last Sunday, said they didn't know what was going on. She even said that fellow staff had wondered whether they would reintroduce better bags , which could be given away and also were good enough for several uses.
Apparently, Sainsburys are ceasing the provision of any single use bags and will charge 5p or more for stronger ones.
Not according to the regs; https://www.gov.uk/guidance/carrier-bag-charges-retailers-responsibilities , it seems 5p is the minimum if the required conditions are met
Returnable multiple reuse bags
A returnable multiple reuse bag must be all of the following:- sold for 5p or more
- replaced free of charge if returned to you
- 50 to 70 microns thick - you can count thinner bags as reusable as long as they’re thicker than your single-use bags and the handles are at least 50 microns thick
- at least 404mm (in either width or height) by 439mm
Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
Big signs in Tesco and Sainsbury's entrances today, pretty hard to miss, plenty of time to 'prepare'.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

Not in my local Tesco; however, they have emailed delivery customers.0

Nothing to prepare, unless you make your own cloth bags. Just buy a few 10p bags for life, keep on using the same bags until they fall apart, then swap them for new ones. Take them with you when you leave the house, they fold up small to go in a handbag, or keep them in your car. Easy.
