I've tried and tried to no avail. I even called up the NHS service to see if they could locate one for me but the nearest one they could find was a half-hour drive away and when I enquired about signing up, they told me they had a postcode catchment and only served NHS patients from the local area :(

    Hi Frugalistas,
Loads of money saving today as it's pay-day, therefore my Big Budget Day. Edited hilights of a morning sat at my desk with my trusty calculator are as follows:
*Reconciled August's budget. Despite top-slicing grocery budget by £50 for car fund, we under spent groceries by £9.50.
*Set September's budget, including amounts to be paid to Savings Piggies.
*Was relieved to see that mr f's hefty mileage expenses had been paid on time, as we'd spent a lot on work petrol, not to mention wear & tear on our car. These funds allowed me to allocate extra 'Personal Spends' money plus holiday expenses for our coming camping trip. I like to take holiday money away in a cash-bag, as it means we can enjoy ourselves without having to touch our bank account, as it's all budgeted for.
*Paid £100 across into car fund.
*Did a big wodge of admin/financial filing.
*Bought 4 charity raffle tickets. I don't begrudge £4 to a charity.....the lure of the £10k prize & what it would look like in our car fund was too much for me ;-)
*Entered 8 supermarket feedback prize draws.
    *Did a few One-poll surveys.
*Sold another of my re-listed ebay items.
*Made dough for tonight's pizza & bread rolls.
    Still to do:
    *Water veggies.
*Pick chillies, spring onions & courgettes for pizza/salad tonight.
*Nobble mr f for a Budget Catch-up. These are really helpful & I insist on them. I do all the finances in our household, but it is important that both of us are on board with it, & it's also a good chance to talk about any economies which need to be made, or to motivate each other with how savings are going. To be honest, we were so bad with money for so long, that it's lovely just to end up at the end of each month still in the black. Couldn't go back to living in our overdrafts like we used to, with salaries just disappearing into a black hole every month.
    Kettle time!

P.S Maria - sorry to hear about the flood. CF is a difficult condition, but I think it can be managed better these days. mr f's cousin has it & he's well into his 30s, & seems to be doing ok.
Dawn - Hope the puppy settles in well.
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
  • Hi all,

Maria - sorry to hear that there was a flood and that your friend's baby has cf. Hugs to anyone else that needs them.

Am about but very busy in work and at home. OH's gran has had a very major operation. She is still in an induced coma and is very poorly so any thoughts and prayers are gratefully received. Mother in law is in bits because f-I-l has suddenly come down with chicken pox. She's never had it and so may be contagious so can't got to see her mum in intensive care.

Just trying to keep everyone calm and standing at the mo. I HAVE had chicken pox so may have to be the sanctioned visitor!

    Hope you're all ok

    Afternoon, Quick round up:

    * Interview. OK but exhausted now. Stepped out of interview, turned on phone, immediately took a call from another company who want to interview me first thing tomorrow. Nice to come home to a £5 voucher on the door mat, though.

    * Looked around Go Outdoors while I was in town. Didn't buy anything. OH bought some cheap tuna in Asda.

    * Watch tv recorded overnight. Doing now.

    * Check broadband allowance.
    Done.

    * Change all my passwords. Free precaution. Too tired.

    * Get off the sofa and do some exercise. Too tired.

    * I would quite like to deep clean the storage cupboard, aka Suitcase City, but mustn't do this til all other obligations are done. Too tired.

    * Turn alarm clock off at the wall til tonight. Done.

    * Complain about broken whisk. Contemplating doing this now. If I can get my head around it.

    Keep it purple folks. :p

Yep, rang everyone in my large town. None accepting new NHS patients :( That website is wildly out of date, or they're lying to me.

    Morning all!

Maria - sorry about your flood but at least it sounds like the damage was minimal. And sorry about your friends baby.

Dawn - what's the puppy called?!

So yesterday I ended up cycling over 14.5 miles and my legs and bum are feeling it today! Bob - I only borrowed my boss' bike, I don't own one myself so cant keep it up but do feel more inclined to get one now as despite the pain I quite enjoyed it! I wouldn't be able to cycle to work everyday as my job involves quite a bit of errand running but could maybe do it once/twice a week.

Service on my car cost £110 yesterday but I need new brake pads (which my dad can fit) and new tyres! Because my car has started playing up and is getting on a bit (although not 15 years/250k miles old!) parents have suggested that they get a new car (which they were considering doing soonish anyway) and I buy their car for whatever the trade in price would be. I can then sell my car and use the money to pay them straight off and then pay the rest monthly. Need to think about it. Wouldn't necessarily choose their car if I had a choose but it is a good, 3 year old car which I would be getting cheap.

Think that's everything for today. Hope you all have a good day!
Have you thought about trading your car in for their new car. That way you don't have the hassle of selling it and you may get a better price than selling on it's own
  • Ally - well done on the interview and good luck for tomorrow - fingers crossed for a good outcome very soon indeed
CLF - sorry to hear about the stresses at home at the moment.

    [STRIKE]:p check bank
:p PAD to CC - the car refund finally arrived so I popped the money straight over to it[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:p washing done and out on the line to dry[/STRIKE]2 loads - thank goodness for a blustery day
    [STRIKE]:p feed my friend's cats[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:p take the kids out for our last meal out of the hols. It was going to be tomorrow but the restaurant they like is more expensive on a Friday so I'm going today as it will be cheaper than tomorrow[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:p 15 mins housework and declutter[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:p physio appointment[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:p operation school shoe[/STRIKE]Finally! She found some she liked and they were only £12. I know I'll be buying more before Christmas but at least we are sorted for next week
    :p check for surveys
[STRIKE]:p prepare next month's budget[/STRIKE]Some serious debt busting going on next month. Goodbye debt, and hello happy Christmas 2015

I'm SO pleased with my progress in the 3 weeks that I've been posting on here that I'm already working on my next goal, which is to replenish the emergency fund. Firstly by aiming to save as much as I spent on the cat before her operation... It will be slower going, but I've upped my DMP payments so that I can be debt free this year.

Jonno - I would have thought if I traded it in I would get less than selling privately? As they'd knock me down so they can then get their markup? Agree it would be less hassle, although my last car sold before I'd advertised and for more than I asked!!! Explain that! Maybe I should become a used car salesman!
    Debt as at 5 June 2023 - £15,600.89
    Current debt - £5,100
Total paid off - £10,500.89 (67% paid off)
