Not sure if it will post it as a link here or if you will need to cut and paste it into a new tab address bar.

  • Hello all

Well, I have managed to bust my budget this month! I had £20 to last me until next Saturday, but spent £30 in Tosco.

I'm a bit annoyed, but trying not to be. My shop today included stuff that I'm not sure I should really be including in my budget - a scented candle, matches, bin bags. This stuff added £4 to my spend, so in terms of pure grocery spend, I am only £6 pound over. I think I might take a different approach next month and set aside £15 for cleaning/household stuff, separate from my £150 grocery spend. Or I might just put my grocery budget up to £160 to include all cleaning stuff, toilet roll and washing powder. Does anyone have any preferences regarding this?

I got a few bargains today, although I bought turkey mince, which I have never had before, and have no idea how to cook! I've put it in the freezer, to give me time to find a way of turning it into something decent!

My bargain of the day was some fresh sardines down in price to an astonishing 18p! There were really enough two meals, but I don't think they freeze well, so I just greedily ate them all for dinner with some couscous salad. Thye were absolutely delicious - I'll be looking for them again.

i'm hoping not to spend anything else is week, but I really want to stay in budget next month! Even when I go over, I think this Grocery Challenge is really helpful. By focussing on what I'm spending, and trying to plan meals, I am eating much better, and I have almost completely stopped impulsively buying random junk food!

I've spent £289 so far this month, so I have £61/£350 remaining.

I'm happy with that because we have enough food in for the next week or two, apart from 'ready meal treat night' food and any fresh stuff that we'll need to buy.

I think it is just down to personal choice. I include all of mine in the budget, but I know others have a toiletries budget ect. Im even including birthday cake, treats ect. Its just about finding balance and whatever works for you!
