Not all banks are closing branches. The big banks are, but metro is one that isn't.

If banks are to sell, buyers would be anybody interested. Like sabadell that bought tsb

It's totally hypothetical - HSBC have not been ordered to sell any branches, and they have not announced that they will voluntarily sell any.

This talk of the old Midland Bank name reminded me that they started rebranding the branches from Midland Bank to Bank Midland. (Including the one near me which is now a trendy wine bar). Does anyone remember when that was done? It soon stopped as they got orders to change the name to HSBC.

I remember that. When I first saw it I thought they'd just put the sign up the wrong way round by mistake. They only ever got round to changing the signs over a few branches though, and as I remember it was quite some time before they changed to HSBC so I don't know if that's the reason they only changed a few of them.
