Left is never right but I always am.
  • And without warning Corbyn opens fire with a blistering and unexpected salvo against Sturgeon! She ducks but the SNP mainsail is hit. Splintery bits of wood, rigging, and a sail are falling down around the SNP captain who is forced into evasive action.

Nah. The SNP will support him in Westminster. Corbyn's problem is that if he's not looking like being PM in 2020... The Scots will more than likely give up on the Union.

He should concentrate his fire on the Tories first. Labour leaders, both UK and Scottish ones, who've completely mistaken Holyrood politics for Westminster politics OR vice versa in the last 8 years have ALL regretted it muchly once the votes are in. Just ask Jack McConnell, Ian Gray, Johann Lamont, Jim Murphy and Ed Milliband.

Stick with dissing the Tories out of the starting gate Mr Corbyn. ;)Though my goodness, the front pages today over the National anthem... and he's only been leader since Saturday. A real onslaught. Surely things will settle down a bit soon ?
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

    Interesting....
Corbyn did not rule out working with the SNP. But he said he would sidestep any nationalist trap that would allow Sturgeon to present co-operation as a reason for Scottish voters only to support the SNP in Westminster elections.

Corbyn also put the SNP on notice that he would be taking them on.

He said: “Nicola Sturgeon has to question her own privatisation agenda. The privatisation of CalMac is still set to go ahead, the loss of college places is still going ahead. These and other issues will all come up in campaigns in Scotland and, of course, in the election campaign next year.”

“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

A laughable extrapolation you make there Shakey. You know wishing something to happen doesn't make it any more likely don't you?

  • No need to factor that out to him, Graham. It's more than obvious to everyone who flows his content anyway, and absolutely missing on him.
  • Sturgeon is in full retreat over Corbyn. The SNP had clearly been wondering if Labour would be friend or foe, but like with everyone else Corbyn has blindsided them, mostly by totally out socialisming them.

Overnight they have gone from having a USP of being the sole voice of the Left in Westminster, back to being a bunch of independence botherers.

Corbyn's first visit to Scotland as leader is going to be very interesting indeed.

The tories hate that....they like to keep people down and in their boxes....their job is to conserve the status quo so the already better off can sleep safe in their beds and get up in the morning knowing their investments are safe and the rest wait for trickle down. Hence their immediate reaction is to define him as a threat to national security

    Really?

I'm from a very working class background. I experienced levels of poverty in my childhood most people today couldn't imagine. Nevertheless, my parents were loving, believed in education, encouraged me to work hard and now I earn quite a bit of money. Seems to me that The Tories think that I'm entitled to keep a fair share of that money since I've worked hard for it but Labour want to take most of it off me and give it to people who never worked hard. It's the Labour Party who are trying to put me back in my box.

I'm prepared to pay quite large amounts of tax without moaning but when the government is taking more of my hard earned extra pound than I get to keep then I say enough....anything above 40% is a bridge too far for me. Anyway, high rates of taxes don't produce extra revenue for the government. It's the Laffer Curve init?

If you want to improve equality - you improve access to high quality education and health care - you don't redistribute wealth from those who work hard to those who don't imho.

The days of Labour trying to ape the Tory party to attract Tory voters are over.

They weren't apeing the Conservatives - they were occupying the middle ground - which is where elections are won. The Conservatives are now occupying the middle ground and will carry on winning elections because of that. Labour have ceded the middle ground and will pay heavily.

Be interesting to see if Zac Goldsmith can repeat the feat.

He will. He's the only person who is really opposed to Heathrow expansion. Sadiq Khan is a mealy mouthed liar who used to be pro Heathrow expansion but now has suddenly seen the light. Khan is definitely not to be trusted - he's like Burnham - he'll say anything to get power.
