Sturgeon is in full retreat over Corbyn. The SNP had clearly been wondering if Labour would be friend or foe, but like with everyone else Corbyn has blindsided them, mostly by totally out socialisming them.

Overnight they have gone from having a USP of being the sole voice of the Left in Westminster, back to being a bunch of independence botherers.

Corbyn's first visit to Scotland as leader is going to be very interesting indeed.

Corbyn will cut the same swathe through the political elites in Scotland and England as Foot did.

    Will certainly be interesting indeed.

Jeremy has really got all our right wing bretheren hot under the collar hasn't he. This is exactly what he is there for and proves the point of my post;)

Nothing heroic about being in opposition for decades. Labour were out of power for 18 years last time they lurched to the left.

Hot under the collar? No, it's more like rubbernecking on the motorway at a car crash, you just can't help yourself.

And, yes the thought of Corbyn winning an election should frighten us all - make no mistake it would be a complete disaster for Britain.

"I'll give you stuff" ; jezzer, Sep '15 onwards

    Yes he's a regular Santa Claus :santa2:
  • Though my goodness, the front pages today over the National anthem... and he's only been leader since Saturday. A real onslaught. Surely things will settle down a bit soon ?

These are vital days for the new Labour leader. This is when perceptions are built. The Tories sealed Ed Miliband's reputation as the weirdo who stabbed his brother in the back in the first few weeks after he became leader and the image still haunted him five years later.
  • I do find it interesting that those who shriek so loudly about the terrifying menace of Corbyn's red commie statist dystopia seem also to think that the state should dictate behaviour with regard to anthem singing and poppy wearing. What is the point of these gestures if they are mandated by order? I would rather judge Corbyn on his performance at PMQs today than his singing ability.

It has absolutely nothing to do with his singing ability!
  • Corbyn would probably get more votes on X-factor than in a GE

Hilarious that this morning on BBC 5 live, people were moaning that he didn't sing the National anthem.

Well why would he and why should he??

It seems that the right-wing press wants to impose a kind of compulsory North-Korean style leader praising. How ironic is that!

Had he sung the lines, the headlines would have been to criticise his hypocrisy.

I for one would never sing the simpering lines glorifying a rich, greedy parasitic family of aristocrats who have drained public finances and plundered public property for ever. These people receive multi-millions of benefits without cap, and are not subject to the bedroom tax (good for them or that would be a big one). None of them have a job except for holidaying endlessly in luxury. Some tough job eh?

I can remember being in a theatre some years ago where at the end, we were all expected to rise to praise our great Queen - yeah right! I stayed bum on seat watching the moronic display of idol-worship unfold before me!

As for Corbyn,I don't agree with his open-door immigration policy one bit, but that aside, a fair wage for workers, British public re-ownership of utilities and transportation, a fully funded health service and pensions - Bring it on Jez! About time the workers arose, and it looks like maybe the tide is turning!

I'm from a very working class background.

Ditto. Both my parents left school at age 14 and I grew up in a Lancashire mining village where the mine closed long before Thatcher.

Anyone who tries to tell me that I've achieved what I've achieved because of a silver spoon in my mouth will get a knuckle sandwich in theirs!
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

The Brits like to laugh at American's with their flow chart approach to patriotism but the UK is no better, in many ways.

Why do we have to sing a national anthem promising obeisance to a privileged woman none of us voted for or can choose to stop paying?

There are a lot of assumptions in this country that need challenging. Corbyn is the one to do it.
