Lots of things impact your chances in life
The primary factors are probably genetics and your parents intelligence and standing in the world
If we had a choice, if it was a game where we picked characteristics before birth. I would choose good genetics and good parents. That would far supersede which country I was born in especially if it was the choice between two developed countries. Good parents and good genetics in the USA would be a better choice than poor genetics and poor parents in France.
Maybe at some stage in human evolution we will get to a point where humans are all born with an identical perfect genetic code and have their neural network mind programmed by machines to be as perfect as it can be and there will be no parents just a superintelegence machine guiding us through life. Then we will all be born equal. Before that time arrives we are not born equal there is variation in the species we couldn't have made it this far if there wasn't. Some people are upset by this idea but its a simple truth.0 -
I've been around long enough to know life isn't fair but I've been around a long time and seen the divides getting bigger. It does the country no good to have a large part of the country poorly educated and not fulfilling thier potential.
What divides have gotten bigger?
What government policy do you think is going to make everyone well educated an fully fulfilling their potential?0 -

None, people do that for themselves.
Only those who believe centralised planning solves all believe that the government has the power to make the lazy work hard.0 -

I think more support needs to be giving to children and parents in poorer areas, sure start for instance, funding education properl. I don't have all the answers and I definately don't think Corbyn has them but the problem exists and ignoring it isn't the way forward.0 -
So what seems to be your ans to everything that's but it's a good job everybody doesn't think like you as nothing would ever change. I've been around long enough to know life isn't fair but I've been around a long time and seen the divides getting bigger. then at least dont complain about teachers low wage and inability to afford housing - given a large part of the country is poorly educated. lol
in all seriousness, education should begin with parents teaching things that school wont teach - about finances mainly. there is a severely lack of teaching in schools to teach kids about personal finance. also schools and parents should do more to teach kids that certain degrees are worthless and a waste of time - degrees should only be done to add value to a students future career.
these things should be done imo and they cost nothing to the taxpayer. i never said nothing should be done. i said that i shouldnt have to pay for anything to help the poor uninformed.
in the ideal world there will always be poor people and rich people. its never possible to have everyone rich (at least until full AI automation in EVERYTHING). but it is possible to have everyone poor (socialism).
i think the middle class need more help then the poor. they have been tax raped like anything to help support the benefits class and other huge public sector expenses in this country. and even then a lot of the middle class are doing ok. this shows this country is doing just fine and there isnt anything drastically wrong with the setup.0 -
The divided between the rich and poor and the effect coming from a poorer area has.

saying the rich poor divide has goteen wider is very unclear and doesnt really answer GreatApes question. Can you be more specific?
with regards to teaching, maybe funding is not required but instead better teachers and/or more disicplined children? perhaps teaching needs to be taught in a different way for the less fortunate and parents need to be better parents so their children can realise their potential. poorer families tend to have rubbishy parents.0 -
the way i see it is life is just a game to be played against yourself. you are your own competition.
its achieving goals such as family, career, fitness, business, finanaces etc.
sure not everyone is the same. this is why its pointless trying to compete with anyone but yourself - as otherwise you end up bitter and thinking the world is not fair.
That is exactly how I now approach life too. But when I was poor (and I was, but not as poor as some) it was completely different, thank god I was able to turn things around.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

I'm not sure that poorer parents are inherently worse than reach parents it's just that the pressure is greater on poor parents, that's not to say there aren't bad parents.0 -
There is plenty of evidence that the divid is growing if you care to look for it, but in my opinion a greater problem is the perception of many people in the poor communities that they can't escape. As far as teaching goes I agree it's not just finding and discipline is a problem, but poor discipline is not just the responsibility of the teachers and that is where support earlier would help.

im not sure i see the rich poor divide getting bigger. i dont see any evidence. please point me out the evidence.
poor families tend to teach bad habits to offspring so in that way they can be bad parents. not all of course. i had fairly poor parents when i was a kid but they taught me the value of money and that has stuck ith me ever since. they themselves grew out of being poor (literally had nothing when they got married) by working hard over many decades and taking care not to go crazy with spending.
when you have poor families being poor due to their careless habits it really is their fault. for the ones that are poor and are stuck there, these are usually immigrants and so would have come from a poorer background (otherwise why even come here?). for the rest yes it is obviously tough being poor and i do have sympathy but the the only way out probably is for the children to do well in school and get a good job etc etc. certainly there should be no handouts except making sure there is basic shelter/food if the poor cant afford it.
we do live in a decent system where everyone does have opportuntiies to suceed. if there is really a rich poor divide it shwos there are more people willing to do well and are and also more people being stupid/lazy or immigrating here.0 -
