The first poll since the budget gives the Tories a huge 19-point lead over Labour
- YouGov: Conservatives 44% / Labour 25%
- It's the Tories' biggest lead while in government since 1987
- The National Insurance controversy hasn't damaged May's popularity
- The public supports changes to NIC for the self-employed
Labour led the Tories by five points at this stage in the last electoral cycle, whereas they are now 19 points behind. Recent research by academic Matt Goodwin suggests that Labour must be at least 12% ahead in order to have a chance of winning a majority of the next general election.
Corbyn's team remains adamant that it will find a way of reversing the party's fortunes in the polls.0 -
Interesting stuff, Setmefree2 ....... I understand that after this bit has been accomplished -
"Corbyn's team remains adamant that it will find a way of reversing the party's fortunes in the polls"
their next project involves attempting to find the end of the rainbow while carrying a spade and trying to avoid the wrath of a leprechaun
(All IMO of course.)

They have bigger things to worry about than Jeremy Corbyn's tax return! Are the party going to stand by their MP's I wonder.....or hang em' out to dry!0 -

Ultimately it will be for the courts to decide.
It's a pretty complex area. I'm sure everyone is a Google expert in election law now but it's not like the Tories were on the fiddle. They misallocated spending. It's not like they were having non-English speaking voters coerced into providing proxy votes for example. Labour seem to be up to their necks in that fraud.

This reminds me of a funny story an Indian gent told me.
He said he was at a London rally in the late 1980s chanting 'out thatcher out'
He had no idea at the time who thatcher was or even what they were protesting and chanting in the rally. Made me laugh when he told me. He is now a tory leaning voter0 -

I can well believe it. I've lived as a migrant in more than one country and you do end up getting swept up into doing things to fit in that you wouldn't normally do. I managed to go to two meetings of what amounted to the local revolutionary communist party in one country!0 -

We'll see You seem to minimise it's significance. I've heard quite a few tory MP's are unhappy about Tory central office keeping them at arms length! https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/mar/15/pmqs-verdict-corbyn-fails-dismally-to-exploit-u-turn-on-national-insurance The fact that Corbyn is rubbish means this poor Govmt is getting away with things they should never be getting away with! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/15/jeremy-corbyns-critics-must-eat-words-even-useless-thought/0 -

Hopefully just the beginning with 12 files winging their way to the CPS!0 -
I'm guessing politics is held in such low esteem by the general public that they just assume they're all on the fiddle and that it's not party-specific; they were all pretty much as bad as each other when the expenses scandal came to light.
Is this seriously going to return Scotland to Labour, and convert the English shires to Corbyn? They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Do you also hope that the fines Labour and the Lib Dems received for election spending result in criminal prosecution?
As a Labour cheerleader you should be worried that 12 Tories lose their jobs as if they do there'll be another election and the Tories will go from a majority of a handful of seats to a majority of 100 or more and that might well be curtains for Labour finally.0
