It's rare that you see so many strawmen in a single posting. Well done.
Oh really....imo it's poor old JC who is the victim of all the straw men fallacies......that's why this thread was created.

But I don't "get" the demonisation in some quarters of the low paid, in many cases they are doing the same hours as those of us who are fortunate enough to have the skills to earn a higher salary, maybe it just makes some of us feel a little bit better about ourselves to have someone to look down on.

I don't think I have ever once looked down on poorly paid people. For a start my upbringing was in a family of very modest means and my first actual paid job was while I was still at school working in the factory where my mother was a secretary, I carried and stacked paint tins onto pallets. In different circumstances, I might still be stacking paint tins.

    Heh.

But of course, George knew that all along. He just has to fool the markets for as long as he can though.

The mindset you describe was common in Dickensian Britain....the deserving and undeserving poor....as defined of course by those who had access to power and resources. If they can achieve so much in life, anyone can if they put their minds to it....apparently! it's that simple you know......makes you wonder why there are any social problems in the UK at all.....because the answers are so easy....just bring back the workhouses or make people realise that they should be grateful for what they have and the fact that they don't live in China! There are people on this thread who probably think Dickensian Britain was the 'good old days'.:rotfl:
There is so much denial and ignorance of real social issues probably because it doesn't fit in with the world view!

What's wrong with the plan to simply place the poor in Reformatory Detention Colonies? What else are you going to do with the lumpen proleteriat? After all, I believe it has become unfashionable in recent times to advocate simply killing them.

In what way is prediction about what might happen in 2019 "the real world"?

Absolutely. Longevity is increasing, child mortality dropping quickly, education improving, and birth rates are now dropping too.

Technology, capitalism, and globalisation are working hand in hand to create a better world.

This is *well* worth a watch.

He had no decent argument to explain how we were going to overcome global warming / pollution / over fishing / etc though. I guess if poverty can be eradicated anything is possible though.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

So now you are insulting a whole county? :)

And what about these "little villages out in the sticks"? What an irrational prejudice to hold. I suppose those poor little villagers lack your metropolitan sophistication.:rotfl:

That's easy, keep the power stations so no-one is out of a job but don't send them any fuel, and keep sending the fishing boats to sea but don't give them any nets.

Hey, with great ideas like that, I could be running the Labour party!
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Presumably the plan with the mines is to pay one lot of miners to dig the coal up and another to bury it again.

Interesting that Mr Khan is trying to win the London Mayoral election by putting as much water between himself and Mr Corbyn as possible. I look forward to seeing Labour's tactics for the by election for the seat vacated by Mr Harpham. Surely Labour can't be remotely troubled by the possibility of losing a seat where their majority is 40% of the electorate. Time for Mr Corbyn to show he can lead from the front when he has an open goal.
