Yes, but we're different to France in a good way.....

I'm inclined to point out, that despite having a revolution and allegedly overthrowing their ruling classes, France hasn't turned out all that different to the UK. We are both in the same European Union, and we are both pretty much westtern liberal democracies with a capitalist bent. Certainly France and the UK have more in common with each other, than either has with Cuba, for example.

The trouble is, whilst Corbyn might have raised many issues in terms of the Labour Party's own internal squabbles, he hasn't raised any issues that are of any interest to anyone outside the Labour Party.

It's hard to think of any substantive issues that he has raised bar Trident and Syria, both of which are what Americans would describe as 'Beltway' issues.

I think you mean Jacobin. A Jacobite would be something quite different. :)

Ah yes, a quick Antrobus shows my error. You are, as always, correct.

.....not that I'm a Corbyn supporter as such.....I'm just more balanced in my views that the usual right wing McCarthyite headbangers on here......... but I'll have a pop............it may be that he intends to try and change Labour's policy on the issue and having a pro trident defence sec. doesn't assist this plan? It's hardly rocket science is it!:)

I dunno - I can imagine sacking a shadow spokesperson because they failed to support party policy, doing so because they do seems a little unreasonable. Had policy changed and Eagle had continued to espouse her own position rather than the party one then of course her position would not have been tenable. Are you saying shadow cabinet members should always follow their leaders pronouncements rather than party policy? Doesn't sound very democratic.

    More Carp from Corbyn
Jeremy Corbyn is to say that a Labour government could ban companies from paying dividends to shareholders unless they pay workers the living wage.
Errrrrr? Why not just raise the national minimum wage and enforce it if that's what you believe in???? Why do you need a scrap????

Mr Corbyn will suggest imposing "pay ratios" between those at the top and those at the bottom of a company's pay scale could be another option for creating a fairer society.
...because a cleaner really is worth the same as a CEO......eusa_naughty.gif

...wonder if that will apply to Trade Union Leaders, NHS employees, Chiefs of Police, even Footballers, Musicians, Artists etc, etc......?
Addressing a Fabian Society conference in London, Mr Corbyn is also expected to use his speech to make a scathing attack on the Conservatives, accusing them of "running the state into the ground" for ideological reasons.
Unlike Corbyn who will run businesses into the ground for ideological reasons....
"Their concept of fairness is of a very different order to ours," he will say.
....you can say that again, Tories think that if you work hard you should be able to keep a decent proportion of what you've earned....Labour think that the lazy and idle should be showered with dosh....
"Fairness for only a few is not fairness, but privilege."
What???? the privileged few who sit around on their derriere's all day and produce nothing - whilst the rest of us provide them with education, health care and homes????? That privileged few?????
Mr Corbyn is also expected to repeat his promise to renationalise the railways
Because British Rail was so much better than Virgin Trains.

Just trying to convince people he's still around.

All companies will be paying the compulsory living wage by the earliest point at which he might be in a position to introduce such legislation - which by then wouldn't be needed anyway.

His latest idea is keeping hold of the fleet of nuclear submarines, but not having any warheads on them. Presumably, when the submariners are unable to tune in to Radio 4, they launch white flags instead. Or perhaps the instructions inside the envelope will be to head over to Vladivostok and join their comrades.

I heard this on the radio today. He doesn't want nukes but the unions want the submarines to be built so jobs aren't lost - so the solution is to build submarines designed for the sole purpose of carrying a nuclear deterrent but then don't put any nukes on them!

Genius. Whilst you're at it why not whack up a few coal fired power stations with no intention ever to operate them. We can even dig some coal out of the ground and pile it up next to them. Jesus wept.

I am a Labour member, but didn't vote for this man and despair more and more every time he opens his mouth with a new policy. We need a meaningful Opposition to hold the Government to account, but we do not have this and the Tories are essentially running pretty much unchecked currrently. This can only be bad for the country.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is any party that represents me at present. I don't think so and am sure there are tens of thousands (or even more) like me in the country and I do wonder if a breakaway party will be formed before too long. These are worrying times!
