The whole point of a nuclear deterrent is to deter. The point you say you'd never fire is the point the deterrent effect is lost, so that's something you don't say. Ever. Unless, of course, you're a clueless numpty.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

Depends where you stand doesn't it really! I think the real loon is the idiot who says he would in any circumstances press the button!
Jezza is being refreshingly honest and sticking to principles he has always held.
Jeremy was in favour of abolishing Trident : now he will keep it but not ever personally press the button
Jeremy is a pacifist who supported the IRA during the bombing campaign
Jeremy believed in leaving NATO but now is OK about staying
Jeremy was to abolish UNi fees but now believes in keeping them
Jeremy was in favour of leaving the EU but now sees no circumstances in which he would leave
....... fill in your favourite U turns ...........
Jeremy is refreshing honest and sticks to his principles : yes he still hates the Tories although ...................0 -

By the way Clapton congratulations on your six badgers....over 35k posts now. That's amazing ....and you respond every time I come on here. That's some achievement mate!0 -
You seem obsessive in your need to point out Jezza's failings. A similar list, in fact a much larger list of changed views could be hung around the neck of virtually any politician. With leadership comes the need to compromise your views .....it was ever the way. It's nothing new. All that is happening here is an expression of your dislike of him.

I would probably agree that Jeremy is no worse a hypocrite than most Tory (and Labour, LibDEms, SNP, Greens etc) politicians.
But do you repeated claim they are decent and stick to their principles too?
I do dislike his (and McDonnell and Abbotts) long history of support for the IRA who bombed people with no reasonable cause.
I appreciate that doesn't justifies your dislike but it does mine.0 -
He doesn't believe it deters! He has always said so.
In which case, he's been consistently wrong. Of course, given how he flip flops on pretty much everything ...I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

The Corbyn Effect
http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/blog/archives/9496
Cons: 42%
Lab: 29%
Don't forget that the current Government is in the phase where they push through all the unpleasant and contentious stuff in the hope that everyone has forgotten in five years' time. Give it another 4 years and it'll be tax cuts and showering money like confetti on the voters.
This is deeply unhealthy for democracy in the UK.0 -
