A government is only as good as its opposition; it is in all our interests that Labour should be able to hold the Government to account effectively. Yet if the party is not just near-unelectable but preoccupied with fighting internal ideological battles, it will be unfit to fulfil its purpose. This development is bad for democracy.
Moby told me off for saying that. TBH I think that he's a complete fool.
For democracy to function you need opposition to the status quo.
The bunch of lightweights and clowns that make up the
Labour Shadow Cabinet aren't an opposition.0 -

Don’t hold your breath. Why should the chancellor be for turning? The election is years away, and he has no opposition worth fearing – not the vanquished Lib Dems nor Labour, which seems to be effectively awol for now.

No sign whatsoever of a Corbyn Bounce:

Changes to Tory and Labour support are within margin of error and thus meaningless.
The bye-election will be interesting as it seems that the UKIP tactic will be to go for Mr Corbyn.0 -
Great quote from the Beeb today.
"The Labour leader's biggest problems are behind him. In place, not time."I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
Corbyn's top advisor suspended from Labour Party.

The first of many I hope.
How can you have a (the?) senior advisor to the Labour leader that recently was advising people to vote against the Labour Party?0 -

I think you are being premature, he is pale, male and stale and Corbyn is standing behind him. Plus of course he has deleted the tweet, apologised and also claimed that when we encouraged people to vote for someone other than the labour candidate he wasn't actually not supporting the said labour candidate...3 excuses are 3 times better than 1I think....0 -

Its all froth. The Tories are in until 2015........a lot can happen between now and then. Despite the glee at Labour infighting from our tory contributors there are plenty of events on the horizon to affect the mood. The fightback by the Labour moderates is strangely having a positive effect for many in the party. People thinking it will be the same as the 80's are mistaken in my view. The mood is not the same. There is a determination to stay and fight. There will be no schism.
The strategy is to do whatever we can to disrupt the govmts programme and things are beginning to happen there. The tax credit rebellion was the start and rumours of significant climbdown on the Trades Union legislation are positives. Its quite an exciting time actually despite the election. Our local party has 700 new active members as well. The only downside is Scotland, Labour wont be trusted there for years methinks but London is different and I reckon we'll have a Labour mayor back soon!0 -

Erm 2015 only has another 50 days or so to go and I suspect that the Tory Government will somehow stagger through to the end of the year.
Labour can't really do anything to upset the Tory applecart unless they team up with.....Tories. That's the reality of a Tory majority.
My analysis a while back showed that Labour are far more likely to lose seats in by-elections than the Tories, mostly because by-elections are far more likely in Labour seats than Tory ones. That means that the chances are that this Tory Government will get through a full term unless they blow up over Europe.
Regarding the mayoral election, I think both Tories and Labour have strong candidates. It's worth remembering that Mr Khan has been done several times for dodgy expenses claims and is tainted by having nominated Mr Corbyn.I think you are being premature, he is pale, male and stale and Corbyn is standing behind him. Mr Corbyn does seem to like a white man in a senior role. He has no problem with women taking the junior roles as long as they remember their place.0 -

Sorry ......I meant 2020 of course:o
Khan is respected......so is Zac but Zac can't get away from his background and what he represents. His natural constituency is narrower. He'll win the suburbs but that won't be enough to get him elected.
Your clearly manufactured 'concern' regarding Jezza's sexism shows either your agenda or your ignorance, or both. I doubt that you have ever met him. I have and he is a principled man with the right values.....sadly I agree he is unelectable.....but that is a different point. I'd rather spend my time talking to him than any other of the scum bag, self interested politicians (from all traditions) I have encountered during campaigning. You wrongly malign him imo.0
