You lot are so fickle, half the posts are moaning about scammers then when ebay does something about it

How does forcing sellers to accept only paypal deal with scammers??

Paypal is the choice of scammers, you only need to read a few of the horror stories on this (and other) board to see that...

All this is ebay abusing their position and extracting an extra 4% from sellers who have already seen their fees go into orbit.

Dave, whilst paypal is not perfect it is safer than any other payment method. I accept that you have your own agenda with both ebay and paypal but try not to let that cloud the issue.

We've heard all this before in several recent posts. This is my view from my experience of selling on ebay, it's faster, safer and less hassle than any other method of payment. I don't care about the cost, if I don't offer paypal and my competitors do I will lose sales because buyers love it. I had a shop before selling online and on ebay and the losses due to crime and fraud were horrendous!

That simply is not true, both sellers and buyers intent on scamming both use paypal as it is so easy to compromise and leaves virtually no trail.

Which is easier, opening or hijacking a paypal account or opening a bank account?

Ok, lets just leave it then that you can carry on using bank transfers and cheques for payment as I believe that everyone should have the right to choose. However, lets not mislead people newer to selling on auctions generally that they have any real protection if they use those payment methods.

Surely taking bank transfers is the sellers best option??

I see you have chosen to twist the discussion now we were talking about buying in case you hadn't noticed:rotfl:

Yes sellers love bank transfers I would welcome my buyers using one with open arms..but it is exactly because the buyers have no protection and no leverage with the seller if it goes wrong that sellers love them so much. As a sensible seller I accept though that most buyers prefer to have some protection and so acknowledge that virtually 100% of my sales are paid for via paypal, and that's fine as I am not in the habit of trying to scam my buyers or wriggle out of my responsibilities.

Give it a rest, Dave... you know very well that Soolin would never advise a buyer to pay with a bank transfer.

But a seller is extremely well protected if someone chooses to pay that way... as again you know well.
