Is this the start of Ebay forcing Paypal only payments..

I went to relist an item that hadn't sold on ebay and got the following message:-
You cannot submit your listing due to the following problems

Dear SellerThank you for choosing eBay.
Due to the level of disputed transactions in the category in which you are choosing to list, eBay is taking strong measures to protect both buyers and sellers on eBay.
If you would like to sell in this category, please sign up for a PayPal account if you do not already have one.
I do actually have a paypal account, but don't accept payments with it due to the fees.
I wonder how many categories they are going to start this on before forcing sellers to accept paypal as a method of payment on all auctions...
Cheers, Des.

At the moment it appears to be just games and other media..for consoles the situation is even stricter in that paypal must be the only payment option.
People have asked time and time again for ebay to do something about making trading a bit safer, and this is the way they are tackling it. Maybe we should be careful what we wish for.
As for your actual question, yes I do believe that over time more and more categories will require paypal as an option. I would guess that eventually the only categories to escape will be the smaller craft type areas where people trade mostly on trust.
Much as I dislike the idea of paypal becoming compulsory there won't be a huge outcry over this as it will affect such a small minority of sellers.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. A very worrying announcement, now would be a good time for Google to step up to the plate

Now off to try and find somewhere else to sell my games and console stuff.

Seriously. Is Dave some kind of elaborate industrial espionage ploy against ebay? Someone should be told!My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

OP said he was off elsewhere to flog his stuff, I gave him two options to try.
Both free, so in a moneysaving forum the best choice.
See good advise.
That said I do think ebay are greedy scum who should be erased from the face of the earth. The money, Dave...0 -
It's about time Ebay got some real competition imo...
It is worrying....as a lot of things have changed in the last 6 months...and a lot of people aren't happy about it!! The problem being, is that there is no real place for the rebel Ebayers to go....0 -
Gosh Dave, don't you like E-bay? People would never have guessed!:D0
