Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker
Just to throw another idea in the circle

It could be that the computer system couldn't handle the order for 9 books with the 3 for £10 offer on ..... so it processed them as 3 individual offers, which meant that you had postage to pay on each order.

It could also be that the first order of 20 pounds was not fully completed (3d secure bank verification) as such it would have "gone out of your bank account" but it would simply be a pending transaction. This would make the customer service agent's position correct. It would also make it something which is not exclusive to Amazon.

You say that you have heard "every excuse this morning" but don't forget that THERE IS AN EXCUSE FOR WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED! Don't be so dismissive and rude (yes, I said rude!) to some poor agent who is trying to help you! If it is an Amazon issue then a level of calmness on your part will result in more favorable outcomes.

I've heard every excuse this morning... Eventually customer services hung up on me! (I was not rude, nor did I swear... although I was a little angry!)

I'll quote myself ^^^^ Please do not make assumptions I was rude. Having worked in far too many call centres to count, I am never rude to people who are trying to help me. However, there does become a point when you get a little annoyed when who you are speaking to cannot even grasp basis English and they work for a call centre dealing with Amazon UK English speaking customers! Do pardon me for wanting a half decent service when I buy things from somewhere.

    You were rude.

You may not be actively rude (swearing etc), but you have demonstrated little in the way of listening as you have seemingly dismissed every possibility without consideration. You have also shown a level of disdain towards the employees who were tasked with helping you. Those are quite rude to be honest. That isn't such a big deal, though, as a level of rudeness is to be expected if you are angry.

Whilst you do not deserve to be cut off per se (unless you were really bad, or got the warnings etc) I can understand why someone would cut you off if you weren't listening to their ideas and if you were sticking to a single track. You were probably going round in circles at the time, and the agent was likely fairly confident that you were wrong and that an alternative existed. There is nothing more annoying than a customer who doesn't listen! Having said that, an agent may be rubbish so you can always call back! That is the one point I'll concede!

Having worked in a place similar to Amazon I would say that you likely have some sort of pending payment issue, in which case you can query it with your bank too. It may also be best checking over your order history for things like offers not being applied, postage included or excluded, order status and the correct quantity ordered. The system is generally very good with Amazon, so you'll be able to see everything on your account and it is not going to lie to you. You can also try ringing back and speaking to someone else, or emailing in to their support. Alternatively, wait 5 working days for any pending transactions to go back in as this is generally how long they take. Also check friends and family accounts, as someone may have used your card to buy an unrelated item.

Of course, the above is "every excuse this evening" so I pray that you won't also be angry with me, and I also pray that you will listen! You may well be 100% correct, but you may also be 100% wrong. :T

Amazon customer support now tell me that the pending payment for £20 will be released by the bank; this was initially taken on the first order. It seems that because I placed two orders close together – about 12 hours apart they decided to process another three separate payments for the total amount (two orders) although this means that they have in fact undercharged me by £3.84. Although the money is sat in the bank waiting to be taken, and the book has been dispatched. In fact both orders have, one lot arrived today. I am still waiting for the pending £20 payment to be released.

Definitely not possible. No one uses my accounts on anything other than me! Rephrase that, I live on my own… ;)

I am not angry… I am certainly calmer than I was before… It has been one of those days… actually no, it has been one of those weeks… I apologise.

Problem solved. Seems I have the £20 back in my bank, and the £3.84 has been taken today, total took £50!
