TSB Classic Plus

Hello

I have recently tried to register for the TSB Classic Plus account. I completed the online section and got an email saying I needed to provide ID in branch (which I duly did). However, this afternoon I got another email saying my application has been refused, with no explanation why.

I've never been overdrawn on my current account, have at least 3 years' credit card history without a missed payment, and comfortably earn enough to meet their minimum payment criteria needed to get the interest.

Any ideas why my application might have been rejected? Would it be overly cynical to think it's because I'd be a bad business case for them (i.e. they'd never get overdraft fees etc. off me)? And is there any point in trying to ask them why/appealing the decision?

Thanks!

Did you request an overdraft as part of the application?

Said account was for salary/regular income, and no overdraft request.

Are you on the electoral roll?

If your not already, it maybe worth doing that as the same time. Here's the link https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Have you checked your Credit Report to make sure everything is accurate? Here's a link for that too, you can do call credit online free with a website called Noddle. https://www.noddle.co.uk/

If everything is accurate, then I don't see that it would do any harm to appeal. Many posters have won appeals, although this is not guaranteed.

If you don't win the appeal, I'm sure there will be plenty of other suggestions for other bank accounts, which earn you interest, if that's what your looking for.

How many existing current accounts do you have? If several, perhaps someone reviewing your application was playing devil's advocate and thought the salary wouldn't go to TSB and you'd be one of those customers just cycling money through the account every month for the £6 interest.

Unfortunately, as banks don't have to give reasons for declines, all anyone can ever do is speculate.
  • I've got one bank account and I've had it since I was 10. I'm on the electoral roll and until fairly recently was on Experian and had a clean record.

I'm going to pop into my local branch tomorrow and see if they are able to help.

All the best for the branch visit tomorrow.

Whatever the outcome, don't take it personally, sometimes there is no rhyme nor reason why 'computer says no', it just does.

Please come back and let us know how you get on.

If you are still refused you could try Nationwide flexdirect (5%) or Club Lloyds (4%) if the interest is indeed what you are after.

    T&C's apply.
