Motorbiker punched off my wing mirror deliberately - What can I do?

I have reported to my insurance company but the options seem to be:
- Claim on insurance - Issue here is excess is £250, may loose now claims and my premium will go up. So may be worse off. Or would my insurance company use his to cover damage? Since its not a road accident more along the lines of deliberate damage would his insurance even pay out?
- Proceed with criminal damage claim via police - I am not even sure how this would work. I have spoke with police and reported the incident and they are investigating. I don't know what the likely outcomes of this process are though.
Have you got a crime number?0 -

As you have had an incident that you should report (and now will have to let other insurers know), your insurance may go up anyway, but as the cost is likely to be less than £250 (unless you need some respraying then the cost could be depressingly high for a small amount of damage) it is likely that it is not actually worth claiming for.
Perhaps the motorcyclist might be embarrassed to discover that instead of just unclipping a wing mirror he has trashed it. It is a popular thing to suggest, the idea normally being it is just a bit of a nuisance to refit.
As you need your wing mirror, unless it is possible to bodge it in the short term to be good enough, you need to get it fixed ahead of any police resolution. Get a quote and decide what to do about claiming.0 -
Look at this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuN5HsaOMiU
Motorcyclist travelling fast on a straight bit of road , the motorcyclist died , the car driver was prosecuted . The headlight of the bike was on , cannot be turned off , but it still happened . Car drivers need to understand that bikes don't manoeuvre as quickly as a car , a bike is not steered the same way . Lessons need to learn't every day by all riders and drivers .
On of my best mates is a Police Class 1 driver / rider and when I showed him this video he said that even lit up with blues and twos he wouldn't have gone through that junction with that situation at more than 55mph. This guy was doing 97mph, utter lunacy.
I ride with him most weeks and some of the things we see from fellow bikers are just suicidal.
Having said that many cage drivers act like they are blind.

If they decide it is all too confusing, they may do nothing, if they decide that the motorcyclist had previous, they could charge him with criminal damage, or they could strongly suggest that the motorcyclist pay for the damage.

If a simple damage is too confusing they should consider resignation.0 -
No I haven't ridden I bike. In my opinion it appeared that he ended up like that purely because of his high speed.
Congratulations on finding the quote button. Typing underneath what you are quoting makes more sense.0 -

It is because they can't see through solid objects, as I explained earlier. The problem is most of them don't even realise they have these blind spots.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

So the offenders policy paid out? That's impressive.
Hmm, nope, I've read your post again and there's no mention of the offender's policy.
"since when has motor insurance covered you for criminal offences such as damage?"
Well my policy covers me for criminal acts. If someone damages my vehicle, sets fire to it or nicks it I'm covered.Je suis Charlie.0 -

Try reading the post I quoted then. It was always a question about the offenders insurance and not the victims.0
