Looking for advice on Peugeots 'Just Add Fuel'

As the title says I'm thinking of going for the new Peugeot 108 on the Just Add Fuel scheme and I'm looking for some advice and opinions.

I'm 27, will have been driving for 6 years this November, and have a NCB of 6 years currently. I've always bought my cars used with cash with the intention of upgrading (in terms of new-ness and features) every time. My first was a 2000 Ka Collection, already 9 years old when I bought it for £1k. I had it for 4 years when I part ex'd it for another Ka this time a 2007 Zetec which was 6 years old at the time, for £2k.

I drove past my nearest dealership yesterday and saw the advert, looked into it more when I got home. From my details it looks as if I could get the Feline trim for about £240 pm if they take my car as a deposit. Never been to a dealership before though so I'm guessing I could haggle that down?

My first thoughts are can I afford £200 a month, which I can. And what if my circumstances change in 3 years. I do have savings so if I had no choice I'd use that.

I've looked at threads on here about it but what I've found seems to be at least a year old. Just wondering if anyone had any recent opinions or experiences with it?

Thanks :)

How do you work it out to know at what point it becomes too expensive?

I get that you're paying extra for the fact that you get to drive this fancy, shiny new car, but that's fine.

Crazy Lings does it for £187pm over 4 years.

You would nee to work out the additional cost such as insurance, for me it is £200 per year.

Shopping around you can probably get it cheaper.

But wouldn't that mean that I'm paying £187 a month, plus insurance, plus servicing, plus anything that needs fixing? And I'm stuck with it a year longer?

    Also: what is that website!?

Play with it, they do three year deals as well and have 100's of cars better than a Peugeot. (every other car)

    3 upfront payments of £187.02 = £561.06
    47 monthly payments of £187.02 = £8789.94
    Document fee = £180
    Plus it doesn't include servicing
    Plus insurance

Not sure if you're having me on here...

5dr C1 for 2 years based on 10,000 per annum for under £100 per month. Loads of deals like this around... Lings is pricey.. No MoT, max cost for servicing is an oil change, no tyres, insurance won't be much surely?

Have you considered simply buying a nearly new vehicle (e.g. motorpoint) and in 2-3 years if you really want to change it, then either PX it/sell via gumtree and buy a newer one.

Cheapest I can see on there is £148 a month for the Pug108, they all want at least 3 months payment upfront too and don't include the maintenence or insurance. o.O

Buying outright with cash? I've got some savings but I wouldn't want to be left with nothing after buying it, and I'd still have to pay for insurance, maintenence etc myself

The problem with leasing is when you come to the end of the contract. Instead of having some potential deposit for the next vehicle or just plain old keeping the car, you're left with nothing at best, and a repair bill for any damage at worst.

True MSE advice would be to keep running what you currently have. Then it would be to buy a used car which you can 100% afford. However, if your heart is set on a brand new car, look towards a PCP deal, you'll get similar rates but at least potentially have some equity/deposit at the end of the term.

Also, is the pug the be all and end all? Because you can get much better deals on much better cars. The VW Up is usually on a good rate, a quick search and I've found a top spec one for £150 a month: https://www.firstvehicleleasing.co.uk/car-leasing/volkswagen/up/up-hatchback/1.0-high-up-3dr . I'm sure it's Skoda and Seat siblings probably also com on good deals too.
