Advice needed - Seller trying to blackmail me!!!!!

Been using Ebay for ages now, and everything going well, until I used this seller :(

I bought a load of External Hard Drive Caddies from him. There were 7 in total, 3 2.5" and 4 1.8" ones. I paid by Paypal, and they were delivered quickly. I opened them to check them - they were stated as brand new on the auction, but not one box was sealed. The 4 1.8" caddies looked ok - sealed and all intact. I then opened the first of the 3 2.5" boxes up. No caddy was there, and there were leads missing. strange, I thought. Then I opened the 2nd box up. the caddy was there, but was obviously used, and the CD driver was out of its packet, and there was a firewire cable missing. The 3rd one was fine.

I emailed the seller, then got back this email:

i dont believe a word of it i will weigh them again i have many more if have the receipt you better not be lieing i have never heard so much crap before.they are brand new from china and i personall looked in every box i wont accept them back. dont believe a word your saying

i posted a reply saying I didn't like being called a liar, and that I was genuine, and that his listing stated if there was a problem to contact him first and not just neg him. he then replied:

can contact ebay or paypal i will weigh them if not the same bye bye if you are genuwine return them they sold way to cheap.i will weigh the caddys tomorrow and l;et you know
s.gifs.gifs.gif- pc_universe007

i ignored him after that, and took it through Paypal. He sent me a message saying call me with a mobile number. I wasn't going to call someone unreasonable like that, and today he sent me this email:

i offer u 13p refund u bought the items 99p or ill have them back and when u return them i will not sign for them as there is one missing so i will then win the paypal dispute.or you can accept the 13p refund up to u
s.gifs.gifs.gif- pc_universe007

i am shocked because he is clearly trying to blackmail me. if he says that he will refund me, he says he won't sign for the package, and I know that Paypal won't refund me then because he will say that he hasn't received it or its incomplete. Personally, I think he is really annoyed that the item sold for such a cheap price, but then again he could have put a reserve on his auction, which would have saved him.

What would you advise in this situation?

All help gladly received!!!!! :)

hi, he is trying to pull a fast one, me being a honest seller on ebay, but unfortunately paypal alwaze favour the buyer, which is fortunate 4 u, all u have 2 do is file a claim with paypal and return his item recorded delivery as long as you can provide paypal a tracking number to say that you have returned the item you will get a refund, call his bluff! as he knows he is having u on!, sellers like that are the 1s who give honest sellers a bad rep!

    Were they really 99p?
    The money, Dave...
  • Looks like a lot of hassle for 99p - try to sell them on yourself and make a profit - then tell pc-universe007 (is this an ego username or what?) that they sold for more than what he did and you were honest in selling them as they were. You could set up another ebay account and see if he buys them back - wouldn't that be justice!

Yup - but £15 postage, and they only cost £6.43 on the postage sticker. I know I got a bargain, but i did what he said - I had a problem, and when he called me a liar I wasn't going to sit and take it. Principle really.

I will try and sell them, but I wanted 2 of the 2.5" units for personal use, one for me and one for my dad. I reckon i could have got £8 for the other 2.5" unit. The 1.8" ones are interesting enough - they may catch on later as soon as 1.8" drives become more easy to source!

So to send them back recorded would cost you £6.43 plus recorded charge. You could always just leave a neg.

Once you have proof of how much the P&P would have cost they are... Very. It's against ebay rules to make money on P&P...

There is more to P&P than the cost of the stamp thoug, there is the packing materials, time, getting to the post office (cost and time)
