When I signed up to Plusnet their Technicolor lasted a day before I replaced it with my old TP-link one, they are cheap nasty bottom of the barrel routers.

Might be worth buying another router from Amazon, if that improves then keep the service, if there is no improvement then send the router back within the returns period and see what your new ISP will give you.

The current PlusNet router (and what is it with MSE auto-correcting my Plus-net to capitalising the n each time? My choice to spell it how I want MSE!)
The router I have works to connect to the internet, speed is fine, router does it's job, it's just hassle with the cables all over the floor. But I have no small children, pets and am used to walking around it. I'm also leaving fairly soon so am expecting a better router some time soon and hopefully wont need to buy one myself.

Try a hard reset of the router, or get them to replace-

may need to log internet speeds for a couple of days, different times, to try to identify any peaks/lows.

Plusnet's complaints procedure is rubbish too. I made a complaint on 19th May and got no response. Every time I rang up, they just kept saying someone would get back to me. They even closed the complaint twice 'due to inactivity'. I eventually got an email which told me I could go to CISAS if I am not happy with how they are handling it. Without them even trying to deal with it! Finally, I got a response a few days ago which basically just said my service appears to now be working, so what do I expect them to do.

I have also had to return their faulty router, which was giving me speeds of around 4mb, when it should be 38mb. They sent the new router to my old address for some reason and also had the wrong landline number for me, which caused major problems trying to get through their security questions. A bit strange since they are the ones who set up the account and phone number.

I'm seriously considering moving to Sky. I have no idea how Plusnet got awards for customer service.

You lot on here are so funny
    It's the same every time

ISP x has a great deal (ie CHEAP) so I moved to it
Now something does not work, messed up the move, speed slow etc etc etc etc.

Well sorry but what did you expect - stop chasing ever cheaper deals.
IT IS CHEAP SO IT WILL MOST PROBABLY BE SH*T
    Gettit?

In all seriousness if want a decent ISP then you either need to avoid the consumer cr*p and buy a business line rental/BB package.
Alternatively go for AAISP - but their prices will make you wilt - as that is what real service when fighting your battles with BTOR on your behalf costs.

We recently changed over to fibre broadband (it only just landed here in the sticks!) but had ordinary broadband before that.

Granted, we bought a TP Link dual band router to replace the toy-town pink and white one we were provided with, but we get 17mbs with wifi. For us that is rocket-powered speed.

Customer service has always been good and you always get someone without an foreign accent ;)

  • i only changed to plusnet from talktalk in April, but have had no end of trouble with the signal dropping, rang them early in the changeover and tried different setings still no better, anyway i have got out ofthe contract because i read on this forum that you could leave with no exit fee if their charges were increased mid contract,i had no problems leaving, and going back to TT the only reason l leftthe in the first place was becausei was given the wrong information about their price increas when i came to renew my contract,i was told £35 with a youview TV which i didnt want as i had tried it before and it didnt work well here, after i had decided to change to PN TT rang and offered me a deal for £20 a month, as a loyal customer, but as it was going through with PN i decided to leave it as it was ,
I had noproblemswith signal with TT and in general no problems at all, so if you want to leave PN you can cancel without exit fees because of price increase
I have got a good deal now with TT as a new customer,
The reason i dont go with Sky or Bt is TT have a phone service which is anytime talk with no exta charge,as i only use it daytime,so evening and w/e deals are useless to me

Then use a different router... did you try your TT router when you were with PlusNet?

Your Wifi signal has absolutely nothing to do with the broadband service.
