Hi

Before I start, this isn't a criticism of the BGs who do a fantastic job but I've noticed of late that merges aren't getting done and posts are not getting moved to GO. I'm trying to help out best I can by expiring all the out of date posts I can find but I do wonder whether another BG should be appointed, after all we've only got 2 and if one is on holiday/unwell the other one will most definitelystruggle. I'm not sure how they go about this though.

  • Yes - I know it's been discussed before and people say "if they need help they'll ask" but I think it's clear more are required. I am noticing more and more that comps are still on the live board days and days after the listed end date. It didn't used to happen anywhere near as much imo.

Not a criticism of what the BGs do at all btw, they give up their own time and it wouldn't be fair to expect more of them. That's exactly why I think they should be given more help!

Ok I know this might be a really stupid question, and I think I have asked it before, but why is it so important to get the old competitions off the board quickly?

If you enter by posting date they won't be on the front pages and if you enter by end date the date has gone. Given it's easy to see the date the competition ends by the thread title just ignore any which have ended.

Are merge requests not getting done? That could be a bit more of a pain but again if both the threads have a link to each other then entries won't be duplicated anyway.

If you sort the main board into "Title Order" there are around 150 posts that need the titles editing so they match for the format required

    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72&sort=title&order=desc&daysprune=-1&pp=100
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=72&daysprune=-1&order=asc&sort=title&pp=100&page=1

So if new posters don't know what the end date in the title is for (as they don't put them in their post titles) - then having expired comps moved off the board would help them so they don't enter them after they have closed.

I kinda agree, I don't see the point in having only 2 guides when there are other people willing to do it. It's not like it's an expense, there might as well be 20 guides if it doesn't cost MSE anything and people are willing to do it ... why not?

I would expect there to be as few as possible to limit the number of accounts with extra and therefore potentially damaging rights.

Not quite the same thing, but related - would it be an idea to have one thread for the BG's, for members to add links to the threads that need moving or merging, that way, whichever one came online first could do it, rather than guessing which one to PM. Just a thought.

Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!

It has been suggested in the past but I seem to recall it was not seen as required.

If members took notice of when a dupe was spotted & edited their title much of the issue re late merges would disappear. Plus if members scrolled down before entering & did not interact with a dupe thread.

    Just my view though.

I tend to add a link to the original pointing out that it has been duped which puts the original post before the dupe in the "natural" order and people can see the dupe post from the original as well as the original from the dupe.

This post mentioned PM's re dupes and not posts
