I don't want to be one before anyone suggests such a thing, I just wondered how they become one.

Secret ballot amongst the MSE Cardinals. The ballots are usually held at MSE towers on a six monthly basis. They generally send up blue smoke when a BG is elected but the neighbours often complain so it may cease.

    From the rules
HOW DO YOU BECOME A BOARD GUIDE?

Board Guides are dedicated users who want to give something back to the site.
Now and then we post on the Site Feedback board or individual boards asking for volunteers. Generally, the Board Guide picked would be someone who uses a particular board and already understands how it works. An enthusiasm for keeping that board running smoothly and helping newbies find the information they need quickly and easily is the key.
For obvious reasons, if the Forum Team has received reports about a particular poster, that person won't normally be considered for a Board Guide position.

My second question of the night then, inquisitive I know, why do we only have 4. The amount of work they do is immense.

Hi,until very recently we had just three.
Mrs Tine only came onboard in January I think.

I agree that there is quite a bit to do on here, especially re merges & expired moves.
I'm not sure why we do not get more though.

Yes I know, not a criticism, but I'm well behind with my comping at the moment, unfortunately life has got in the way, and I've noticed that there are lots that need to go over to GO, I've clicked expired on as many as I can but unfortunately it doesn't move them until they get a few expired clicks.

According to the stats Mrs Tine hasn't logged in since January 30th, so we've been back to 3 for a while. I assume that any expired or duplicate PMs to her haven't been dealt with. Hope she's okay.

I have made a thread in Site Feedback here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4488953 suggesting that the number of clicks the expired button needs be reduced from 5 or whatever it is to 3 or something. If anyone has any thoughts on it please feel free to comment over there :)

I think there were about 60 pages or so outstanding last weekend when I was trying to catch up all week. I appreciate it's a time consuming role for those that help out though.

I do click on some but tbh I mainly notice them when I'm way behind and if I click expired on all of them with the way it isn't a quick click (ie I have to click back multiple times to get out of it) and on this slow pc I'd never catch up.

    In internet explorer
Instead of clicking on the thread title to open it you can "right click" on it instead then select either "open in new tab" or open in new window" click expired on the now open post then just close the tab/window and carry on from where you were. (written down that still looks a lot but it is quicker and you don't lose your place)

I'm using Safari but a very old version and I can't even update that as it's not supported.. but maybe there is a way similar in that too. Though still a bit of a faff - I have the problem that if I open more than 2 tabs/windows it all crashes too :(
