Heartwarming tales of House prices

I was banned from HPC because I suggested that many people have reasons for buying a house other than its cost price. I gave an example of a couple looking to buy in the catchment areas of a good school and therefore having a move date prioritised by the school year rather than fluctuations in prices.0

No I don't love to read it, at all. I find people's attitudes depressing, and only hope they are representative of a minority in this country. Sadly, I fear they are not. I've been alive long enough to be comfortable, bought many years ago and have no great needs but I do feel for the youngsters of today and what we have left them. To hear the smug 'I'm alrights' spouting their glee at others' struggles is not a pleasant thing to hear, particularly when, for the large part, it was the era into which they were born that was probably the biggest influence on their success. There are those on here who seem to revel in pointing out life's losers even when it is through no fault of their own.

I think that's a bit harsh to be honest. Yes there are a couple of posters who have a deliberately provocative stance, but you can nonetheless have a sensible and reasoned debate with them.
As someone who sees rising house prices as a significant social problem, BTL as something that needs to be actively curbed, and many of the extraordinary measures of recent years as misguided (and this isn't the thread to actually debate any of that imho) my views are a long way from many posters on here. And yet after 500 odd posts, I've only twice felt that posters were out of order in their responses to points I've raised, and i:'be often been "thanked" by posters I've argued with as part of the courtesy of a respectful and lively debate.
Compare that to HPC, where anything other than cheerleading for a crash meets with personal abuse , and it really is chalk and cheese. Or to put it another way, here you get a few "over the line" posts / posters. Over there, anything other than that is the exception.
I've only been on it once, after it was mentioned on here. If that is the case and it's as bad as you say, then why do people keep going on it and then come back on here and write such vitriol? It seems to be that some get a kick out of it - I'd say that is very much like attracting like.0 -

I don't think it's so much vitriol, as incredulity. If you read the post on the first page quoting the HPC poster , it really is crazy. And yet that is almost standard fayre over there. People really do believe that there will be a mega crash, and almost compete with each other to make the most extreme prediction of market meltdown. I mean, 60% off London prices, really?.
I ventured in there to try and inject some sense into the conversation, and make sure that an alternative view was represented. Having tried it, I now realise that it is an exercise in futility.0 -
If HPC is so bad why even mention it? Why bore yourself to death arguing with them? Life is too short to waste it in fruitless debate.
Get out in the sunshine and live a life in the real world.0 -

According to those that should know, nobody argues with the HPC crowd, they simply ban you if you aren't a stupid bear (ahh..... so that's where Crashy, Brit and Bubbles disappeared to).
Agree with going out in the sun though, just got back from a 5 mile run with my dog on Holmwood Common. Wasn't very sunny mind, but I prefer it that way when I'm running.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
