Disgusting. They are now charging some of their customers (most of them, probably) an extra 20% on their shopping.

    Goodbye, Lidl.

Am I thinking that this "loyalty card" will enable customers to get money off certain items??
It may work like the Aldi coupons posted in the newspapers, but no need for the coupons or to buy the paper.

Intriguing and looking forward to the updates.
The Morrison's loyalty card is a waste of time and was better when it just a fuel saving card. It needs scrapping!! At least the Tesco and Sainsbury's cards offer some decent benefits.

Got mine today. Through the letterbox in the RM unaddressed mail drop so looks like every house in Scotland with access to a Lidl is getting one.

From what I understand - You pick up a card / get one through the post. The card gives different offers each week. In first week "£5 off a £25 spend" - In other weeks "money off when you buy specific products" and similar promotions
So yes - it looks like it will work like a newspaper/till spit type coupon ( rather than a "collect and exchange a number of points" type of card ) , but you can use it as many times as you want.

I presume they want to run this on a card ( rather than give the offer out generally ) so they can track if the same people are coming back multiple times, or if different types of promotions attract new customers

The cards must have been sent to households throughout Scotland. We're in Shetland and have no Lidl. Nearest one to us is Orkney. (Not exactly handy.) 😉

Nada666 they are encouraging people to spend £25 (an unlimited number of times) for 10 days from yesterday. This will not be every week, and in any case the card only runs till the end of October.

Now as you can read in this forum, some people only buy the odd thing in there. If some of the people who only spend £10 per visit realise they are only going to pay £20 for £25 worth of goods, it may make them try more products - either the specials in the middle aisle or the ordinary products that they normally buy as part of a big shop elsewhere.

We have a large family so we have a home delivery from Tesco or Asda (our only local options for this service) once a week, and then on Saturday my wife sends me to LIDL with a list of specific products that we buy regularly from there. I take my nearly 5 y/o daughter and she picks about 60% of the items for me, very efficiently. It's always more than £25, probably generally about £35 unless I buy something unexpected, such as their wonderful packing tape that I use in my business, or one of their electrical items.

    Goodbye, Lidl.

So you never shop anywhere that has run a "£X off when you spend £Y" promotion ?
Where exactly do you shop ?
  • just spent 25£ and got 5£ back, whoopee that's a lot of dorito dips when they are reduced and loo rolls.

Exactly my problem. I am feeling very scared and emotional. I have stopped shopping in many supermarkets. If Lidl follow suit I will be even more limited.

It is a genuinely terrifying time.
