The other week I used the bus, first time in a couple of years. Half way to town (a ten minute drive) the driver got off, and lit up a cigarette - leaving a full busload of passengers waiting!

I complained via twitter to the company
    What response did you get?
On Stagecoach busues, there are certain stops during the route that the driver is not allowed to pass before a certain time.
There is some sort of timer in the ticket machine and they can get into trouble if they leave too early.

If a bus timetable has rush hour built into the timings and your journey is during a quiet traffic period, the driver may have to stop several times to get back onto the correct timetable.

What does DD and CM stand for? I thought it would be Direct Debit, but then the sentence doesn't make sense!

I just think that some folk have no self awareness.
I almost think the opposite. They're fully self-aware but have no awareness of anybody else. They drive me up the wall.
Husband's aunt coined a phrase for people like this which is I think very apt. It's 'they think the world fades to black when they're not in it'

I seem to remember being in London and the driver just stopped. They announced it was to do with regulating the service.

My wife has a friend who is notoriously unreliable and scatty when it comes to time. She is always late, never ready if being picked up, and regards any arrangements as variable even at the last minute.

I got rid of a couple of friends like this years ago. I just stopped arranging things for them to mess me about. I figured that I didn't need such people in my social circle. I was right!;)

When I was offered my first job, I was told that one of the most important rules was to not make the customer wait and if I was in the middle of something I should interrupt what I was doing to serve them unless it was absolutely essential to finish.

Have time changed! It seems now that everywhere I go, receptionists make a point of making you wait. The last two times I had an appointment at the doctor, the receptionist tells me that she will be 'right with me' as she continues to input forms on the computer whilst I stand there like an idiot, for her to then turn around to me after a few minutes all happy asking 'how can I help you', which takes all but 10 seconds as I announce my name and that I'm here for an appointment.

Same last time I went to the optician. I got to the counter whilst the two ladies were in a middle of a discussion about not knowing where a pair of glasses were. It went on and on, 'but you said it was here', 'no I didn't', 'well who did you speak to', 'I told you already'.... all that for a good 3 minutes (but felt much longer), totally wasting time and totally ignore me the entire time, despite standing right in front of them.

I just couldn't have someone waiting for me to serve them standing in front of me and not acknowledging them, even if I tried!

I don't generally mind waiting the odd 5 or 10 minutes provided it doesn't involve missing trains/planes/the start of shows. I can't understand the people who start huffing and puffing, and glancing at their watch the second a shop assistant and customer exchange brief pleasantries...are they REALLY so important that a 30 second delay will result in global catastrophe? Why don't they build in a few minutes slack to allow for slight delays?

It's not the sales assistant to customer exchange that annoys me.
It's the sales assistants talking to each other when customers are waiting to be served.

I wish I had been less tolerant.

My ex pal, continually disorganised, late and charmless when challenged, seemed to be very indulged by others.

It was seen as 'just how she is', 'you know what she's like' and a source of jokes.

I have no idea why her behaviour, very offensive and selfish, was always so forgiven. Seems she managed to become a 'character' and was thus forgiven for her eccentricities like regularly turning up very late and without any money with her.

I only ever found one ally who sympathised with me - she said she couldn't believe a grown woman in her 40s acted like a child and was indulged without question by those around her.
