I think we should agree to disagree on this subject Alex or we will both be here all weekend
. Although I don't appreciate talk of moving in with parents at this time of night, I will be having nightmares about moving in with mine now :rotfl:

Yes, I think you're right.Don't want to fall out with you ... you're my only car friend on here. :rotfl: Seriously, I just don't want others to have to deal with things that potentially bring misery to their lives, hope you understand this.

I spend enough time there now and they've a lovely house with enough space that we wouldn't have to be around each other. If I had my way I'd be gone from here tomorrow, it's my wife that wants us to stay put and 'pay our way'. She knows I want my son to grow up there and my parents appreciate me being there.
Honestly go so far as to say if my wife gave up work it'd be a blessing in disguise as she wouldn't have any control over where we live. So long as I didn't have to sleep in my old childhood bedroom, I'd be happy. :rotfl:2018 totals:

Was that last post in code? Re the working hours debate, I used to work 60 plus hours a week and loved my job. When I fell out of love with it I took a job nearer home with less hours and responsibility and reduced my pay. I feel much better and healthier but I do miss the money even though we don't actually need it. my hefty pay packet was more than just cash, I was proud of myself for earning a lot and I defined myself by my job role. Stepping down was quite a hit for my self esteem. Our relationship with work is not just financial, there are all sorts of weird psychological aspects which are different for everybody. So no help really........Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Alex do you have a new ID?
I don't mind the debate at all, I provoked it.0 -
Lots of little posts as the internet is so bad.
I love my parents but I couldn't live with them.
DH's Mum is no longer with us, but the same applies.
Squirrel I agree about identity. I always felt the same until I had to deal with someone in management with worse results than me who the kids can't bear, criticising EVERYTHING I do, and trying to stop me doing good things like extra curricular clubs because it made his favourites look bad.
Also not being allowed (by him) to do things I am more qualified to do than anyone in our department...0 -
But enough of that since you probably know where I work and I'm outing myself!0

Alex how would you feel about Mrs LK giving up work and you all moving in with HER parents and living off their income? Not all of us (well actually, none of us!) have parents with enough room and income to make that a viable alternative, even if we were prepared to give up our financial independence.A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
